Excerpt:

“We have to go home, Milt,” Pinky pleaded.

As they moved closer to the Envo, he began to explain. “We come back to the same day and time. We meet Elise and instead of meeting for coffee we,….No. We can’t hang around all day again. We must have shown up on someone’s radar already!”


“Can’t we just go home? I’m emotionally exhausted!”


“I know. I’m sorry.” He kissed her forehead. “Please let me try. If we fail, I’ll accept it. Okay?”


She shook her head yes. His hands were on her cheeks, wiping tears away. She felt sure there would be more.


“We can do this. This time, we refuse the coffee, and you are dying to see the theatre/dance hall, so we go there. Please just try; it might work. It was within our power to divert her away from there. There has to be some benefit to knowing the things we do!” He beat his fist on the Envo.


“Milt, aren’t we supposed to just observe what happens?”


“I can’t help but think she was only there so long because of us.” He looked down somberly.


“Okay. Point made.”


“I know you’re tired. I think we’ll just need thirty minutes. I can do that. We can do this.” They both got into the Envo, as waves of people came down the street from whence they came, striding, running, full of panic. The air was even smoky this far away. Rescue vehicles could be heard up ahead.


Mile noticed the sun descending lower in the sky, taking on the pinkish hue of sunset filtered through the hazy leftover smoke. He powered up the Envo and maneuvered it into immediate hover mode to avoid the pandemonium of people on the street: people in panic, first responders, policemen who were trying to clear away from the highest buildings. Pinky was weary from the force of it, sure that her headache was on the verge of becoming a full-blown migraine. She pushed back against her seat and gripped the side of the door tightly.


“Are there still some Ibuprofens in the first aid kit?” she managed to say through clenched teeth.


“Of course. Just wait until I get to our optimal speed. Shoot! I almost forgot. Touch the dial, set it to 4:30 p.m. Same date.”


“Will we run into ourselves?”


“Pinky, don’t change the subject!” He really didn’t have an answer. This made him quite uncomfortable. He had a hunch, but it had never been proven. “Oh, possibilities are just banging around in my head. We may have to split up, just divert her at all cost! Look, watch the bird traffic, please!” he gestured toward the radar screen, relatively free of blips. Birds were smart enough to stay away from the commotion and smoke.


“3, 2, 1…..” The speedometer hit 90 miles per hour. Milt shifted his gears to overdrive. It was as if they exited one side of the atmosphere and came back in on another. They were there, in Boston, at 4:30 p.m. he parked the Envo close to the original parking spot near the park, behind a tree. One would have to walk right over to that street to get a full view of it in all of its odd glory. It definitely could stick out like a sore thumb if parked in full view.

Detours in Time imagines being able to visit a future world and the amazing (or outrageous) inventions that will be present. Tabitha and Milt are realistic characters with distinct personalities who approach the rights and wrongs of time-travel in wildly different ways. Author Biography:


Pamela teaches Middle School English for a living. By night, she travels to other worlds and times, placing herself in the persona of her characters, all while sitting in her favorite chair. She has enjoyed writing for various reasons ever since childhood, when she realized writing and making up stories would provide entertainment for long trips and keep her company. Her tendency toward fantastic stories was reflected in tales of discovering modern day dinosaurs and talking horses that would give her advice. The writing of poetry provided an outlet for private thoughts and emotions for years until she decided to self-publish fiction in 2016. Pamela's genres include science fiction, paranormal fiction, and poetry of all types. The Made for Me series is Pamela's first published fiction series. She released her first full-length novel, Detours in Time, in the summer of 2017 and the sequel in 2018. Pamela currently juggles her day job with writing further novels in the Detours in Time world while cooking up more ideas for the character of Norrie from her Made for Me series.
