Restaurant entrepreneur and fiancé to a congressman, thirty-year-old, Amazing Grant has kept her distance from her mobster family, as well as entombed her own less-than-savory past. Until now.

The family assassin summons Amazing to Paris for a meeting with the clan. With their recent blackmail threats against her fiancé, and an Interpol General using her past to jeopardize her freedom, the only thing worse than dragging the people she loves into her battle is discovering why her relatives want an heirloom journal she’s been hiding, to remain buried.

Excerpt

After Daniels left, I headed to the coffeemaker but stopped short at the marble-topped kitchen table. A small black envelope leaned against the salt and pepper shakers. Daniels must have dropped off the family-crested invitation.

I slipped my fingernail under the sealed flap, fished out the note, and smiled at my mother’s scrawl — always in French.

Your father and uncles wish to speak to you immediately, face-to-face, in Paris. Chevalier Mansion – Champs-Élysées.

This was my first summons to appear before the Grant court of elders. Lucky me. I was finally in their spotlight.

Daniels must be playing a dual role. He obviously continued to have alliances with my father, but his semi-peaceful appearance on Richard's behalf and this invitation were civil requests. I’d gone from neglected and ignored to their object of interest.

I had no intention of accepting their invitation.

I also had no desire to leave San Francisco. I just got home. There were other matters to attend to. After showering and dressing, I slipped into a cab and landed outside my business, Vinyl S.O. SF. The nightclub/restaurant didn’t open until four in the afternoon, but workers were always inside, bustling to the loud music playing in the kitchen.

After opening the door, the aroma of the early morning, freshly baked bread surrounded me. I skipped the kitchen and settled into my favorite booth, which overlooked the Bay Bridge. My prized chef had breakfast waiting for me, resting beside fresh flowers in a pink vase.

I dropped my purse on the seat and lifted the silver dome covering my plate. Steam rose, and I admired the golden omelet and roasted red potatoes. Under a smaller dome rested a bowl of fresh fruit and a double chocolate muffin. I took a seat and pushed the fork around my plate, trying to enjoy breakfast, but the demand to fly to Paris spoiled my appetite. Gazing out the window, I sighed. As much as I wanted to ignore them, I knew my family wouldn't allow it. One way or another they'd force me to comply.

“Quit daydreaming.” My right-hand man, Ringo, slipped into the opposite side of the booth. His lean legs stretched into the aisle, and he'd pulled his long black hair into a ponytail. “There’s a catering job tonight that I bid on a few months ago. I’ll drop in later to check up on Janey." He grabbed a knife from the table and cut my muffin into quarters. "I started her on management training.” He popped part of the chocolate wonder into his mouth.

“Whose party?” I placed the other parts of the muffin on a small saucer and pushed my breakfast closer to him. Someone should enjoy this delight.

He dug into the mound of food. “A military thing. Pretty straightforward. Apps, dinner, and dessert.”

“I’ll go. You’ve been working too many hours.”

Ringo raised his eyebrows.

I shrugged. “It’ll give me an excuse to get a spa treatment.”

Grinning, he took a small lily from the vase and handed it to me. “Even in high school, you never needed an excuse to pamper yourself.”

I wove the flower stem into my hair. “Just enjoy your night off. You might have to work a lot in the next few months.” I picked up a piece of muffin and smelled the heavenly, dark chocolate before sliding it into my mouth.

“If I work any more hours, you’ll have to make me a partner.”

“I may sell you the place instead.”
