Title: Heads Carolina

Author: Grea Warner

Genre: New Adult/Women’s Fiction

Book Blurb:

How did a sheltered girl from Carolina end up in a national scandal involving one of Hollywood’s most powerful music couples?

When want-a-be singer Bethany Opala tries out for a TV talent show, she is rejected. But then comes an amazing offer … a songwriter’s dream. Bethany has the opportunity to learn and develop her skills with top music manager, Ryan Thompson.

With a mutual passion for music and words, Bethany and Ryan’s writing partnership develops into something more … something love songs are written about. And while it isn’t wrong, it isn’t right, at least in the public eye.

Surrounded by secrecy and half-truths, Bethany doesn’t know how much she should put up with. Especially, when one more rejection could scar her for good. Will her decision to leave not only Ryan, but the music business and California, come down to the toss of a coin?

My Review:

For as long as she can remember, Bethany Opala has wanted to be in the music industry. She even moved from her hometown in Carolina to California for her ‘big break’ that didn’t pan out. She auditioned for one of those singing reality shows but didn’t make it past the first round. When music manager Ryan Thompson offers her an opportunity of a lifetime, she jumps at it. Together, they write beautiful music. There’s a strong connection and a shared passion for music. When the media finds out about their ‘affair’, they blame Bethany for the break-up and divorce of Ryan and his superstar singer wife. The deeper she falls for Ryan, the more lies start to choke poor Bethany. She can’t take much more, and she has a tough decision to make. Stay in California or move back to Carolina. The choice she makes may just come down to a coin flip. Heads or tails?

Heads Carolina is a heartwrenching story of following your dreams, falling in love, and the cutthroat music industry. From the title, I knew the story would mirror the song on the same title. Heads Carolina starts out at the judge’s table of one of those singer competition shows, just like millions tune in to see every week. Very clever, Grea Warner. Bethany is a heroine I connected with right away. Her emotions, especially her anguish after every rejection, struck me right in the heart. I empathized with her on so many levels. The descriptive narration is so well done, I immersed myself in the story. The characters come alive, leaping from the pages to burrow their way into my heart. The plot moves at a great pace. There’s plenty of intrigue about what’s going on, who is lying and who is telling the truth, will they confess their affair to the world, and who is behind their ‘outing’. And the ending…oh my goodness! It is a heartwarming ending and I can confess, I cried a little. If you’re a fan of the music industry, with all its drama and heart-soaring moments, you’ll love Heads Carolina. If you’re a fan of singing reality shows, this is a must-read! Highly recommend!

Author Biography:

There really wasn't any other path. Grea Warner knew from a young age that she wanted to write. She was born to write. First it was in diaries with little metal keys and in written tales that she slipped to friends in study hall. School newspapers, a college television drama, and the soap opera world were next. After producing and writing a local show, she decided to delve into the world of the novelist. When her fingers aren't tapping out her latest book filled with angst and romance, Grea can be found hiking the trails or jamming to her favorite country artists on the radio.
