N. N. Light's Book Heaven presents Seelie Kay #authorspotlight #pnr #romanticsupsense #steamyromance #mustread

Hi! I’m Seelie Kay, author of 25 tales of contemporary, paranormal, and steamy romance, as well as romantic suspense. I have also written two books of non-fiction.

A former journalist and lawyer, I tend to write about lawyers in love, sometimes with a dash of kink! I am a true pantser. I don’t work from outlines or vision boards. I simply start writing and let the words flow. I trust my characters to guide me as I tell their stories. I am almost always surprised where my stories wind up. However, I am a true believer in Happily Ever After, so no matter the journey, my main characters are always blessed with romance and love.

Writing under a nom de plume, my books cover a wide variety of romance sub-genres. In 2023, my books spanned sweet contemporary paranormal romance (In the Midst of Angels), romantic suspense (Saint Con), and steamy holiday romance (Broken Down Cowboy). In 2024, I will publish several tales of romantic suspense, and participate in a holiday anthology. I have also  authored three series—Kinky Briefs (erotic romance), Feisty Lawyers (romantic suspense), and Donovan Trait (paranormal romance/vampires). My books include:

I have been writing since I could hold a crayon—literally. I still have my first “treatise,” a letter to my mother when I was three. In that missive, I apologized for my misbehavior but pointed out that she also owed me an apology for “being mean.” I went on to participate in and win a wide variety of writing contests, and ultimately earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in education, journalism, and law.

When I’m not writing, I enjoy Packers’ football, baking sweet treats, hydroponic gardening, French pastries, red wine, firefighter calendars, and handsome middle-aged cowboys! I’m also an MS Warrior and fight that fickle disease daily.

Tea shop owner and pastry chef Bailey Willis is nonplussed when she finds a handsome Texan sprawled out on the floor of A Spot of Tea. Trevor Anderson, on the other hand, is instantly smitten. Some might call him a broken-down cowboy, but that doesn’t mean he lacks the ability to pursue a beautiful woman, even if she is a northerner and a Green Bay Packers fan! Unfortunately, Bailey has other things on her mind, like winning the Hales Corners, WI holiday bake-off. When Trevor provides a valuable assist, Bailey begins to regard him in a different light. Too bad he’s planning to head back to his ranch after the new year. Will Bailey agree to wear Trevor’s Texas-size ring? Will Trevor agree to settle in the frozen tundra, the site of one of the Dallas Cowboys’ most humiliating defeats? Hold on to your cowboy hats folks, this tale of romance is going to take you for a ride. Texas style!

Excerpt

Bailey hurried back into the kitchen where her chef, Spencer, held a substantial pastry brush and was swatting a man sprawled out on the floor. A black cowboy hat sat at the man’s feet.

“Spencer, what the devil? We do not beat on our customers.” She extended an arm to the man and helped him to his feet. “Now, will someone please explain to me what’s going on?”

Spencer’s victim picked up his hat and slapped it on his leg, then reshaped the crown. He placed the hat on his head. His soft brown eyes, punctuated by crow’s feet that appeared carved into his tan face, gazed at Bailey, and his full lips curled up in a cocky grin. “Sorry, ma’am,” he drawled in a sexy baritone. “I didn’t mean to disturb you, but my daughter sent me to pick up her order for my granddaughter’s birthday party. I saw how crowded it was out front, so I thought it best to come ‘round to the back door.” He made a face. “Not sure how I wound up on the floor. Guess I slipped.” He shrugged and chuckled. “Guess that happens to those of us ready for the pasture.”

Bailey squelched a sigh. Pasture my eye. He couldn’t be more than fifty, around her age. This guy could be on the cover of a romance novel. He was tall and sturdy, with curly dark hair, bushy eyebrows, and just a hint of a five o'clock shadow. And that voice. She could just imagine the man whispering into her ear after a night of passionate sex. A tiny shiver raced up and down her spine. She was exiting her forties, but her body was not immune to a handsome cowboy. Damn, he was fine.

The minister smiled, his deep brown eyes regarding her with amusement. “This isn’t a social call, Miss Flora, so there’s no need to spiff up that beautiful face. These men have a few questions for you and they’re important.”

Miss Flora screwed up her face. “About what? I ain’t done nothing.”

Rev. Bingham snorted. “When a retired schoolteacher slips into black speak, you can’t help but believe she’s guilty of something.”

Washington gazed at the woman. “Please, ma’am, a man’s life may be at stake.”

“What man.? Is it someone I know?” She avoided looking the officer in the eye.

“Connor O’Brien, ma’am. They call him Saint Con. The lawyer with the food truck.” Long fumbled with his phone and brought up a photo of Connor. “This man? Do you know him?”

Miss Flora’s expression softened. “Con is missing?” She slapped a hand over her mouth and her eyes widened in horror, but said nothing.

The minister stiffened, but inquired gently, “Miss Flora, his phone was tracked to your home. Now, why would you have his phone?”

The old woman emitted a sad sigh, and her eyes filled with tears. “Googly gave it to me. Said Mr. Speaks found it somewhere and told him to pass it on to me.” Her face crumbled. “Tell me Googly did nothing wrong. I’ve worked so hard to keep him out of trouble.”

“Miss Flora, you go get that phone. Let me talk to these officers.”

Title First, We Kill All the Lawyers (Donovan Trait, Book One)

Author  Seelie Kay

Genre Paranormal Romance/Romantic Suspense

Publisher Extasy Books

Book Blurb

Someone is killing lawyers, but a particular vampire lawyer won’t stay dead.

Donovan Trait is a marked man. Flamboyant, stunningly handsome, and notoriously insatiable, his attitude and style belie his skills in the courtroom. No one survives a cross-examination at Donovan’s hands. His knowledge of the law and trial practice has accumulated over the years… and years, of experience. More than three hundred years. You see, when Donovan isn’t seducing judges and juries, he’s a creature of the night. And now that someone has decided that it’s time to kill all lawyers, his lust for attention has set him in the murderer’s sights. The problem is, vampires don’t die. Not easily, anyway. That’s good news for Donovan, not so much for his very human lady love, also a target of the serial killer. Will several unsuccessful attempts on his life expose Donovan’s true nature? Will the killer learn the secret that will guarantee a permanent death? Or will Donovan finally manage to put an end to the killer’s murderous spree and live happily ever after, with his lady love?

Excerpt

A woman screamed and Donovan jerked his head around, trying to see what all the fuss was about. The woman was pointing at him. Donovan frowned and turned away. God save me from simpering females who saw the last issue of City Magazine. Donovan had appeared on the cover after being named as one of Chicago’s most eligible bachelors. Since then, he had learned that the female population was comprised of women of questionable morals and distressing behavior. He was growing weary of the attention. While his colleagues thought it a wise marketing strategy, it had brought him nothing but unwanted female attention. He had become prey.

Vampires were predators. They stalked their victims. Sometimes, they pursued them with a vengeance. That was why he had joined the legal profession. His predilections were well-suited to that particular world. Now, his role had apparently shifted and he was not pleased.

Someone tapped Donovan on the shoulder. “Sir? Are you alright? You’re bleeding. It appears someone stuck a knife into your side.”

Donovan’s mouth gaped and he turned toward the man who had spoken. Then he looked at where the man pointed. There was indeed a knife sticking out of his left side and a stream of his blood was flowing onto the sidewalk. He had a very high threshold of pain. He hadn’t felt the knife thrust into his side. If it wasn’t so appalling, he would be embarrassed. Donovan opened his mouth to reply. Then the pain in his side exploded and his vision dulled. Slowly he slid onto the sidewalk as if he planned to sit on the curb.

Then everything went black.

Infamy. An evil or wicked act. Terrorists bent on revenge have found a way to make planes disappear from the sky, without a trace. And when one winds up buried in a Wisconsin cornfield, it’s a race against time to rescue the passengers from certain death.

When international law attorney Sheikh Harun Ali is lured to the Amazon and warned of a frightening plot against the United States, he and his wife, Marianne Benson, enlist the assistance of their neighbors, covert agent Cade Matthews and his wife, Constitutional Law Professor Janet MacLachlan. Ultimately, these feisty lawyers are pushed to the wall, desperate to find a plane that has been buried in an unknown cornfield, the passengers still on board. The terrorists’ hatred for the Alis is absolute—the Alis once left their organization bankrupt and broken—but they hate America more. And their fiendish games are just beginning. They are seeking a much bigger prize, one that could destroy a nation and possibly the world. An act that will live in infamy.

Excerpt

Cade grasped his water bottle with both hands. “Before his brother died, he said eight words.”

Harun nodded. “They are going to make American planes disappear.”

Dianna’s eyes grew wide.

Anders rubbed a hand over his face, then through his long dark hair. His deep green eyes stared up at the ceiling of the plane. “Fucking hell. Nine-eleven all over again.”

“That is our fear,” Harun said. “However, so many precautionary measures are in place in this country, simply hijacking planes and flying them into buildings is no longer easy. They must have a different plan.”

Cade emitted a heavy sigh. “And that is what we need to figure out. What exactly do those eight words mean? For example, he did not specify that the planes would disappear in America, which could mean that they will disappear abroad or over oceans.”

Anders sat up straight. “And disappear could mean many things. Crash. Hijack. Pull a Malaysia. How many ways can you make a plane disappear?”

Dina blinked, then she became outraged. Did George Donovan Willoughby the Third, the most boring man on the planet, just dump her? “Wait a minute. You want a divorce? From me?” She glared at George. “Surely you jest, darling.”

George gazed at her, his smile condescending. “As I said, darling, I am finding life with you rather boring. I need more stimulating companionship, and I have found it in Mimi Morrison.” His eyes brightened. “That woman is sweet, sassy, and sexy, and quite the firecracker in bed.” He sighed. “I married you because you were hot between the sheets, but once you had that ring on your finger, it rapidly became clear that we weren’t well-suited in other ways. It’s time to admit that marrying you was a mistake. Mother was right. Never marry beneath you.

“So, I think a quick and dirty divorce is for the best, don’t you? After all, we are adults and quite capable of civility. Perhaps Mexico on the ‘morrow?”

Dina stood, picked up her glass and dumped the well-aged bourbon onto George’s head. “This isn’t over until I say it’s over, dear George. Your timing sucks. In two more weeks, my property settlement increases by millions. I can’t believe you want to pull the plug and deprive me of the monies I am due. Being married to you was hard work, and I earned every penny of that settlement.”
