Yesterday, I did something that, to me, wasn't a big deal but to our neighbours it was as if I gave them a thousand dollar cheque. See, the lovely couple came home from the hospital on Monday with a brand new baby girl. Mr. N and I talked about getting them a card saying congratulations. No big deal, right?

After I knocked softly on their door (didn't want to wake the baby in case it was sleeping), the husband opened the door. I reintroduced myself and gave him the card. The wife was in the living room and insisted I come in to see the baby. I chatted with them for a few minutes and touched the baby's foot. Such nice people and a bit in awe of their bundle of joy.

When I left, they thanked me at least five times for the thoughtfulness and kindness. I smiled and wished them a good day.

What did I do that deserved such gratitude, after all? It wasn't that big of a deal, was it?

Kindness is like breathing for me. It's a part of my everyday functioning. I don't think about it, much less expect anything in return.

In this day and age where there's violence, bullying and apathy, we need more kindness. Take my advice and make this quote your mantra:
