Another Beautiful Historical Romance Gem. . . Rhapsody and Rebellion by @Aubreywynne51 #historicalro

Title: Rhapsody and Rebellion

Author: Aubrey Wynne

Genre: Historical Romance/Scottish Regency

Book Blurb:

A Scottish legacy... A political rebellion... Two hearts destined to meet...

Raised in his father’s image, the Earl of Stanfeld is practical and disciplined. There are no gray lines interrupting the Gideon’s black and white world. Until his mother has a dream and begs to return to her Highland home.

Alisabeth was betrothed from the cradle. At seventeen, she marries her best friend and finds happiness if not passion. In less than a year, a political rebellion makes her a widow. The handsome English earl arrives a month later and rouses her desire and a terrible guilt.

Crossing the border into Scotland, Gideon finds his predictable world turned upside down. Folklore, legend, and political unrest intertwine with an unexpected attraction to a feisty Highland beauty. When the earl learns of an English plot to stir the Scots into rebellion, he must choose his country or save the clan and the woman who stirs his soul.

My Review:

English Earl Gideon is busy trying to manage his estate when his mother has a disturbing dream, one where his cousin, Ian, dies. His mother reveals she has visions and insists on returning to her home in Scotland. While Gideon doesn’t believe in visions, he agrees to travel to Scotland to visit his maternal relatives. What he doesn’t anticipate is to lose his heart to a Scottish lass.

Alisabeth (Lissie) had only been married to Ian for a year before he dies at a political rally saving the lives of a woman and child. Lissie feels caught between two worlds: her childhood home with her parents and her home with Ian’s family. When Gideon and his mother arrive, Lissie is immediately attracted to the Earl. The more she’s around him, the stronger her feelings grow. Is she betraying Ian’s love by wanting to be with Gideon? Can she convince Gideon Scotland is his home with her by his side?

Another beautiful historical romance gem from Aubrey Wynne. Everything from the plot to the intricate historical details to colourful, fleshed out characters makes this a must read. I must admit, I didn’t know much about this particular unrest in England/Scotland history. But after reading this book, I’m filled with curiosity. The sweeping romance I’ve come to expect from any Aubrey Wynne book is here in spades. What makes it so special for me is how seductive it is while being clean (no graphic detail). Wynne is masterful when it comes to weaving romantic tension, especially against a historical backdrop.

If you’re looking for a romance to curl up to, pick this up today. Yes, it is part of a multi-author series, but it reads as a standalone. Highly recommend!

Favorite Character/Quote: Alisabeth. She’s a Scot through and through yet she doesn’t quite know where she belongs. She’s drawn to Gideon yet feels guilty. A well-drawn character and one I could relate to.

My Rating: 5 stars
