“An epic fantasy, artfully written and illustrated by the author to appeal to a broad audience...an enchanting read from start to finish. Her voicing and vision is brilliant." - Goodreads
The Acere have spoken; the tome must come to the mage.
Among the rubicund grasslands to the forests of Roan, a quest begins at the onset of royal betrayal. The fate of Roan rests on the hermit mage, Pyrus, who has singular powers but is loathe to help. Yet, the susurrus words of the ancient Gods have promised that he will be instrumental to their plans. Their entreaties show him the nature of their magic. He must first avow to create the soldier, and he must also protect the Lady.
Meanwhile, seething in the pit, the Hellion will soon emerge.
They all will be tested, yet it is Pyrus who holds the key to camaraderie and purpose.
The debut epic Duology The Cry of the Acere, from Arisawe Hampton, is influenced by authors like: Brandon Sanderson, Raymond Feist and K.F. Breene.
Wow. I, for one, am absolutely maddened that book one ended. I need to be able to turn to the next page to see what happens next! The author did a fantastic job of instantly crafting a magical world anyone can relate to. The simple use of comfortable idioms like electric lights/water power/houses with kitchens and bedrooms... all that puts the reader firmly in a place they recognize. With that set, the author can then weave in the fantastic and it just seems natural. Mages and magic. Gods talking. Dark magic. There's even a hint of romance here and there.
Personally I see this being a superb two-book story. The first story told an incredible tale and now has pit the two sides firmly against each other. Book two should bring about the happy crucifixion of Hugh and his magical tramp while Cora reigns and rewards her helpers.
The book is so well staged and flows so well that any reader from 8 to 80 will just enjoy every second of this book. I cannot recommend it enough and can't wait to read book two.
