Title: Nick, Men of Honor Book 3
Author: Livia Quinn
Genre: Romantic Suspense, Contemporary Romance
For love and country. . .
The Men of Honor heroes are part of a large extended military family and encompasses themes of family, love, and their passion for making a difference. Descriptions of the series include contemporary romance, military romance, romantic suspense and second chance at love. Could his past get her killed?
What happened? He’d been dodging the lightning, fighting the wind and rain, searching for a place to hide…when he’d seen the faint glow in the distance. No one answered so he’d broken in… and there she was, a beautiful Valkyrie. Wielding her sword, she screamed as she struck him—for no good reason—and then everything went black. Everything. You’ve killed him, Bad Brenna taunted. Brenna looked down the steps at the man lying motionless in the tropical downpour. I told you that silly phobia would get you in trouble if you didn’t get a grip. Brenna knew she was right, knew it was exactly why Bad Brenna existed, to help her cope with the trauma that had turned her into a scared rabbit whenever lightning was in the forecast. But her anxiety over the approaching storm had been magnified by another premonition. Usually, it meant someone was about to die. Had she been the means, this time, of fulfilling her own prophecy? As always there were no clear answers. She needed to start trusting her sixth sense if she was ever going to get rid of Bad Brenna. First step— rescue her victim from the storm. Nick book 3 in the Men of Honor series is a Romantic Suspense, amnesia in the storm story with premonitions, overcoming irrational fears and an undercover agent running from danger. Mistaken identity, fate and family are also themes.
I’m a huge fan of Romantic Suspense and when I discovered Livia Quinn wrote this book right after Katrina, I had to read it!
From the time Brenna was young, she’s had premonitions. Her best friend, Declan, calls it a gift but for Brenna, it’s a nightmare. On the night of the biggest storm she can recall, Brenna has a bad feeling. She can’t figure out what it means, only that someone’s life is in danger. Gripped with terror, she knocks out an unsuspecting stranger trying to get into her house.
The Handsome Stranger (or HS for short) is knocked unconscious (thanks to Brenna) and he reminds Brenna of James Bond, especially when she discovers a gun in his wet clothes. Brenna knows she has to care for him until the storm passes or his blood will be forever on her hands. When he wakes up in a hospital three days later, he has amnesia and doesn’t remember a thing. Wait a sec, he does remember one name: Brenna.
Thus begins a romantic suspense filled with twists and turns. The more Brenna is around him, the harder she’s falling for him. He keeps her at arms length (while devouring her with his eyes) until his memory comes back. There’s a connection between them that neither can explain and when the truth is revealed and his memory returns, will their love grow stronger or be split in two?
Nick is one of the best books I’ve read and if I had the chance, I’d give it 5,000,000 stars. Yes, it’s that good! I spent most the book trying to figure out who the James Bond look-a-like is and what he’s doing in the middle of the storm. Suspenseful, swoon-worthy romance and Brenna’s best friend (Declan) is sensational comic relief. I will never look at Southern Comfort the same, thanks to Quinn. Run, don’t walk to your favorite retailer and purchase this right now!
Brenna. I found a kindred spirit in Brenna and not just because we have an unnatural fear of storms. She’s the kind of character most women can relate to, either they know someone like her or are her to a certain extent. Brenna has a deep-seated fear of lightning and with just cause. Yet, she battles her fear to rescue a complete stranger. No matter what life throws her way (and there’s plenty thanks to Livia), she manages to make it through. She’s such an amazing woman and I loved reading her story.
My Rating: 5+ stars
