My Review:

Pepper is back for another great adventure and this time, she’s tackling an ancient curse. In Pepper’s last book (The Supernatural Pet-Sitter: The Magic Thief), she and her best friend, Luna, escaped the clutches of an evil witch, thanks to a pack of werewolves. Pepper wants to pay back the werewolves somehow and even goes so far as to visit the pack leader. He shows her how much pain the curse inflicts on the werewolves and she decides then and there to reverse the curse.

When Pepper confronts the local witch council about her blood oath (as well as the blood oath of her family who support her 100%), not all are pleased with Pepper’s decision. It was witches who placed the original curse on the werewolves centuries ago. Several enemy witches cast spells on Pepper and her gnome family in an effort to stop them reversing the curse. Luna, Pepper’s best friend and a fledging witch herself, and her family help the only way they know how. Can Pepper reverse the curse or will she be the blood sacrifice?

I loved this middle grade paranormal story even better than the first one. All of my favorite characters are back, even King Arthur. Grandma Nonna is back and has a larger role than in the first book, which I loved. The plot moves quickly with plenty of character development and magical realism. It’s not too dark, though, so it is perfect for ages eight and up. There’s also a well-developed mystical lore that unfolds throughout the book. Moat’s world-building is impressive and realistic, as far as witches, werewolves, gnomes and other creatures go.

Not since Harry Potter, have I read an engrossing paranormal series for kids and adults. If you like all things Potter, give Pepper and the Supernatural Pet-Sitter series a try. You won’t regret it!

Favorite Character/Quote: Pepper. I know I said she was my favorite in the first book and the same goes for this sequel. She’s such an honest, engaging character and I’d love to have her as one of my friends in real life. I really got close to her in this book and her integrity and bravery made me wish I was more like her.
