If She Finds the Man She Hunts, Will Either of Them Survive? Dog Gone by @DianeMoatAuthor #bookrevie

Title: Dog Gone: A Sam Holden Novel

Author: Diane Moat

Genre: Suspense, Crime Fiction, Women Sleuths

Book Blurb:

A horribly murdered dog. A woman at a crossroads in her life.

Samantha Holden finds the tortured body of a dog, launching her on a battle against animal abuse. The line between right and wrong quickly blurs, leading her down the path of bringing these abusers to justice. A path which calls for extraordinary - and sometimes illegal - measures.

A modern-day animal-avenger version of Robin Hood, Sam turns to robbery to fund her illegal projects. A mob family retiree, a housebound social media whiz, and a gorgeous Irishman who fences the things she steals, all are linked together in the search for the man who started it all.

Can Sam balance this escalating crusade while keeping it all secret from her on-again, off-again boyfriend, who could cause it all to explode?

If she finds the man she hunts, will either of them survive?

Reviewers have said of Dog Gone: “Action packed and suspenseful, hard to put this book down!” “Sam Holden is a true Avenger!”

My Review:

What would you do if given the opportunity to truly punish animal abusers/murderers? Would you do whatever it takes to bring them to justice?

Sam Holder is a part-time volunteer at an animal shelter. She’s seen her fair share of mistreated animals but it’s only when she comes across a brutally murdered dog on the side of the road, she acts. Filled with vengeance to bring animal abusers to justice, she funds her cause through illegal means. For her, it’s the only way to support her mission. While keeping her cause a secret from those who care about her, she’s on the hunt for the one man who started it all. He’s a cruel abuser who’ll do anything it takes to not get caught but that doesn’t stop Sam. Will she succeed in bringing him to justice or will he take his frustration out on her?

An incredible, moving suspense dealing with animal abuse and justice. Moat crafts a likeable hero in Sam Holder who’s out for her own brand of vigilante justice. The dogs can’t defend themselves, so she has to be their voice. Blending Dexter with a modern-day Robin Hood, Dog Gone battles animal abuse and sheds light on how meaningless the current laws punish those who are essentially murderers. While the beginning was a touch confusing, once I got past that and caught on to what was going on, it was a gripping suspense. I whipped through the pages in an effort to find out what would happen next. Highly recommend!

Favorite Character/Quote: Sam. While it took me awhile to figure her out, once I did, I was on-board with her vigilante justice mantra for those that abuse animals, especially dogs. She reminds me of Dexter from HBO’s series, only a woman. Hard as nails with nerves of steel, I’d fight next to her any day.

My Rating: 4.5 stars
