Norse Mythology: Tales of the Gods, Sagas and Heroes by James Shepherd and @Arcturusbooks #mythology

Title: Norse Mythology: Tales of the Gods, Sagas and Heroes

Author: James Shepherd

Genre: Mythology, Folklore

Book Blurb:

The myths and legends of the Norsemen have entertained both old and young alike for hundreds of years.

This fascinating collection contains stories retold from the Icelandic Eddas, the principal sources of knowledge of Norse mythology, and the Sagas of the ancient world of the Vikings.

Following the deeds of the powerful Norse gods, such as Odin, Thor and Loki, and filled with a host of fantastic creatures and objects containing magical properties, the tales in Norse Mythology will conjure up a world of heroism and romance that will enthrall readers.

My Review:

I was so excited to read Norse Mythology as I’m a huge fan of world mythology and folklore. I’ve spent years studying Greek Mythology but haven’t delved into the fascinating myths that feature the gods of Asgard. I’m somewhat familiar with Odin, Thor and Loki thanks mainly to Marvel.

The myths in this compilation offer a wide range of adventures, gods, magical creatures and even some romance. While there are quite a few stories here, I found the flow disjointed and I had a hard time with it. I also didn’t care for how violent/sexual parts of the myths were not included. Is this for children or adults? The blurb doesn’t make mention but if the intention of this collection is geared for children, then this is a four-star book. But according to the publisher/authors, it is shelved in adult mythology/folklore. Disappointing.

If you want a clean version of Norse Mythology, pick this collection up today.

Disclaimer: I received a copy from Arcturus Publishing via Netgalley in the hopes I’d review it.
