Melody McBride lost the connection on her cellphone.


“Seriously?” She punched in the number to her aunts’ café again. Her Aunty Cassy was late. She was supposed to have been at the dock thirty minutes ago to help make the introductions to their clients.


Their new assistant answered with an annoyingly cheery voice. “Thank you for calling the Second Chance Café and Bed and breakfast. May I put you on hold?”


“No, don’t put me on…”


The call went directly to her aunt’s favorite song, Stardust, by Nat King Cole.


The sky darkened as Melody huffed a sigh, cradled her cellphone against her ear, and knelt to search for her umbrella in her suitcase. She tore though clothes she had tossed from her closet and dresser into her suitcase in a haphazard fashion. There were mismatched shoes, a pair of summer slacks, lingerie, a slinky black dress she’d bought for a date with Fred but hadn’t worn because he had cancelled, sweats…


A dark shadow hovered over her, blocking out the icy rain and wind.


“Is this yours?” A man stood beside her holding a giant black umbrella over her head in one hand and dangling a red bra in the other.


Eyes as green as a summer sea held her in their gaze. His skin was bronzed by the wind and sun, and it looked like he hadn’t shaved in days. She swallowed, shivering again but not from the cold.


He brought the umbrella closer as his features turned concerned. “You are cold. Are you waiting for someone?” Is voice held a slight accent, not quite British, but close.


Her heart leapt to her throat, and she wanted to shout – I’ve been waiting for you.

What I love most about the holiday season:


For me, the holiday season brings out the child in all of us, and we see the good in people and believe in magic again. It is my favorite time of year.


Why is your featured book a must-read to get you in the holiday mood?


I had always wanted to write a story where my heroine fell in love with a prince, and in A Christmas Match I got my chance.
