Excerpt:

Traditionally All Hallows Eve or Halloween is when the veil between the spirit world and the mortal world is the thinnest. This allows spirits to cross over and share the mortals plane of existence for one night ending at midnight. Pepper intended to use that magic to her advantage to get to the bottom of the mystery plaguing her family. She was thankful for the unusually mild weather in Lobster Cove. Halloween evening temperatures would be in the upper 40's to lower 50's, a boon to the town celebration and the culmination of the events her family and Ravyn's coven had set in motion last week.

"I'm going to go check on Ember and Tonk at the mammal habitat. Won't be long." Pepper closed the door and sprinted down the path, doubled back and hid behind the greenhouse with a view of the porch. She sucked in a breath when the tarp moved and the bungee cord slipped off the bumper with a zing. A shadow crept out from under the tarp, it slunk to the stairs. A huge reddish wolf advanced snarling and leaped over the railing knocking the figure down the stairs. He hit the ground and tumbled down the path, the shadowy figure scrambled to get to his feet, but the wolf was too fast. One leap and the animal landed on the figure’s back, knocking him forward before he finally landed face down on the ground out cold. In a blink of an eye, the wolf disappeared and the witches closed in on all sides.

The witches formed a circle around Ben. Wisps of fog trailed along the ground and took shape as spirits floating in the meadow. Duncan stepped forward and cast a spell ensnaring the man in vines of shimmering light.

"Don't make the vines too tight around his neck, we need him to be able to speak," Ravyn said in a calm lilting voice.

"Done," Duncan replied.

Ravyn flicked her fingers, a bucket of water appeared over Ben's head and emptied over him.

Ben sputtered and cursed, his eyes wild.

"Mr. Bochard. It's come to our attention that you are misusing magic for personal gain. You've called on dark magic to curse an innocent to do harm to your own kind. How do you plead?" Ravyn asked in a commanding tone.

"Bitch." Ben bit out. "I only acted to get back what was mine." He narrowed his eyes at Pepper.

She cast a blindfold on him. "Don't want to take any chances. Not sure what he's capable of. " Pepper said when Ravyn glared at her.

Ravyn nodded to Ben. "I'll take that as a guilty plea.”

If you could dress up as anything or anyone this Halloween, what or who would it be and why?

I’ll be dressed up as a vampire.I have a long cloak, fangs and long black wig. We turn on the fog machine close to the porch. I sit in the fog with the candy bowl, of course, waiting for the unsuspected trick or treators and scare the bejeebers out of them as they turn the corner toward the porch. Now I don’t do this to the little ones, I step out of the fog and hand out the candy.
