Title: Dutch Courage: a holiday romantic comedy (Love in the Lowlands Book 4)

Author: D.E. Haggerty

Genre: Romantic Comedy, Contemporary Romance

Book Blurb:

“Do you believe in love at first sight, or should I hit you with my bike again?” Can a vacation romance turn into a happily ever after? When a bike runs me over while I’m walking in Greece on vacation, I look up to discover a Greek god staring down at me. Wavy brown hair, sparkling dark eyes, and olive skin – where do I sign up for a holiday fling? Turns out my Greek god is a Dutchman named Nico, but I’m not picky. Two days on the Greek island of Rhodes turn into a long-distance relationship, but I want more than occasional visits. So, I give up my life in Wisconsin and move to Holland to be with Nico. Except when I arrive in Holland, Nico ghosts me. Maybe I should have told him about my grand plans of us living happily ever after in The Hague before I moved across the ocean? Welp. I’m here now. Time to figure out what’s going on. I just need to gather a bit of Dutch Courage first. This holiday romantic comedy features a woman who doesn’t bother looking before jumping into the deep end, a man who’s hiding a pint-sized secret for stupid reasons making him the world’s biggest idiot complete with a trophy and everything, a group of friends who always have their girl’s back, a scheming best friend who seems to know everyone’s secrets before they do, and a super sweet HEA. Dutch Courage is a standalone book in the Love in the Lowlands romantic comedy series. Dutch Engineered – Abby and Jasper’s story Dutch Treat – Avery and Niels’ story Double Dutch – Mia’s story Dutch Courage – Char and Nico’s story Dutch Online – Sofia and Rafael’s story

My Review:

Can Char gather up her Dutch courage to make it work with Nico or is his ghosting a sign they’re through? Charlotte (Char) is on vacation on the Greek island of Rhodes when she’s run down by the most handsome man she’s ever seen riding a bicycle. Is it love at first sight? Who cares, as they both jump in feet first to a vacation fling. But when they part, they agree to a long-distance relationship. Char is back in Wisconsin and Nico is back in the Netherlands. It works for a while but Char’s heart yearns for Nico. She plunges ahead and gets a job in the Netherlands. She vows to take the leap for them to be together. The only issue is that she doesn’t tell Nico. She moves from Wisconsin to the Netherlands and can’t wait to surprise him. Only when she moves her whole life to be with the man she loves, he ghosts her. What’s she going to do now? With the help of her newfound friends, she adjusts to living in a brand new country. She’s also not giving up on Nico. He might be hiding from her, but she’s screwing up her Dutch courage and knows whatever is going on, they belong together. It all rides on Nico now…

Dutch Courage is a comical romantic comedy about vacation flings, long-distance relationships, and taking the leap for a happily ever after. I simply adore this series and in this one, D.E. Haggerty writes about some very real issues for dating these days: vacation flings, long-distance relationships, ghosting, and moving to another country for love. Both Char and Nico are ‘leap before you look’ personalities and the consequences for their actions pile up. This is very realistic, trust me. I connected with Char right away. Her quirkiness and quick thinking endeared me to her. She’s very much like I was before I met Mr. N. The attraction between Char and Nico is immediate but things slow down, and they get to know each other. D.E. Haggerty’s a genius when it comes to unputdownable romantic comedy, and I couldn’t get enough of Dutch Courage. The plot moves at a great pace with plenty of funny scenes and antics. I found myself clutches my sides as I read the dialogue. Where does D.E. Haggerty get these lines? If you’re a fan of rom coms with humorous dialogue, quirky characters, and a story with all the feels, pick up Dutch Courage. If you’re a romance reader looking to laugh your head off, pick up Dutch Courage. A brilliant addition to the Love in the Lowlands series, Dutch Courage needs to be your next read. Highly recommend!
