Title: How Deep the Ocean

Author: Gloria Lucas

Genre: Women’s Fiction

Book Blurb:

One year has passed since Mia's husband, Austin, completed suicide. Everyone promised she would find a new normal. And yet, she finds herself haunted by her past while doing her best to be present for her son, Isaiah. Austin's loss fills all the empty spaces in their home. Mia is accompanied by loneliness even when she isn't alone. And so, when she meets Sean, a man she quickly connects with, guilt accompanies desire. Her friends celebrate the new romance and urge her to follow her heart. But Mia isn't sure a broken heart is reliable.

How Deep the Ocean is a story that takes an unflinching look at trauma and its impact on mental health. It is a story of love, loss, and healing.

My Review:

Powerful tearjerker that just rips because it is right on point for what is portrayed here. Always hear on IG that grief is personal. This book just tells that tale to perfection. The character of Mia has been hit in such a bad way. To be widowed young is bad but because of suicide is so harsh.

Asked to read this book right after my cousin dealt with this. Her husband also took his own life, and she has had to play those cards. In my personal view these people are so selfish. They keep having power over their partner when the blame game goes on. This book doesn't tell anyone how to...it shows the fallout clearly. Mia must find her path and there are no rules. There is no right or wrong. One who I think of as my mentor often says stuff like this is a test of human character.

This book just hits hard and will be beneficial to all who are dealing with grief. If you have lost someone close, then this book will be good for you. If you have lost someone to suicide, then this book could help you too. A strong read that will move a reader.

My Rating: 5 stars
