My Review:

Tired of being lonesome, Debra chooses adventure and a little romance but didn’t plan on danger. Lonesome Mama (love the title) is an exciting romantic suspense with adventure, unexpected twists and turns, vibrant characters, and romance. The narration and action are gripping. The world-building is on point. Start to finish, I loved reading this book.

Let’s start with the world-building. In any book like this one, you need epic world-building to amp up the tension and set the plot in motion. Lonesome Mama’s world-building is descriptive, intricate, and easy to dive into. Pauline Baird Jones creates a world any reader would love to read.

The descriptive narration is so detailed, I experienced every emotion, every thought, every action and reaction like it was my own. There were times when I lost myself while reading. Such an incredible job with the narration.

The characters are well-written with personalities all their own. The characters are relatable, more so for the later in life crowd. I connected with Debra right away. She’s a fun heroine. Donovan is a hero in every sense of the word. The rest of the characters add depth to the overall story.

The romance subplot is well-plotted with just the right amount of tension. It doesn’t overtake the main plotline and is realistic.

This is the final book in this series, and it is quite enjoyable to read. If you like your romance later in life and with a heavy mix of action, suspense, and a bit of danger, you’ll love this book as I did.

My Rating: 5+ stars
