My Review:


Damon returns to Boston to find a new vampire king, rogue vampires, and his beloved Lacey at the center of it all, trying to stop a bloodbath. Can he redeem himself in her eyes and bring order out of chaos or will she send him to his final death? Former vampire king Damon left Boston after the woman he loved shot him twice. He's back and the Boston he left is not the same one presently. There's a brutal vampire king now in charge and humans are open targets. This is not how it's supposed to work. He offers his assistance to Lacey and her team but he's unsure if Lacey will take him up on his offer. He is a vampire, after all, the enemy in her eyes. He can't sit by and watch his brethren tear apart Boston. The closeness to Lacey is enough to weaken his resolve to keep his distance. Will she accept him as he is and open her heart to his love or will she finish what she started and kill him for good?


The Silver Double Cross is a gritty, edgy paranormal suspense I couldn't put down. I'm a huge fan of vampire suspense where the vampires are neither sparkly nor docile. The authors have breathed new life into vampire suspense and I couldn't be happier. Rogue vampires, cocky vampires vying for power, a conflicted woman who loves a vampire yet needs to eliminate vampires for the safety of humans, and a former vampire king in love with a human. Talk about a delicious paranormal fantasy. I connected with both Damon and Lacey right away. They carry the plot as they battle each other and rogue vampires. Good versus evil gets blurred and the reader is along for the pulse-pounding ride. The descriptive narration is dark, emotional, and intricate. The plot moves at a terrific pace with plenty of action scenes to keep the reader whipping through the pages. The world-building is so well done, I got sucked into the story. I wanted to fight the rogue vampires right next to Lacey. The suspense kept building until the gripping conclusion. This is book two of the series, yet I didn't feel lost as the authors provide backstory to what happened in book one. The authors are a brother-sister writing team, yet the writing is seamless as if one person wrote the story. If you love your paranormal gritty, dark, and menacing, pick up The Silver Double Cross. One of the best vampire suspense stories I've read in a long time. Highly recommend!

Debra L Martin and David W Small are a brother and sister writing team who started writing together in 2006. Writing with a co-author is challenging in itself, but when 1 author lives on the East Coast and 1 lives on the West Coast, the challenges are a bit more daunting, but because we live in an electronic world of email, texts and Zoom meetings, the partnership is totally workable. They love the same types of books and that love naturally evolved into writing their own books.


Their epic fantasy "Assassin's Curse" Book 1 in the WITCH STONE PROPHECY, was released in 2012. "Witch's Curse" Book 2 in the series, was released in July 2014. The final volume in this series will be released in Winter 2022. "The Silver Cross" Book 1 in the series, VAMPIRE NIGHTLIFE was published in 2012. "The Silver Double Cross" Book 2 is currently available and the Vampire Nightlife boxed set is now available as well. If you enjoy Arthurian history with a twist, they have published "Quest for Nobility" and "Crystal Facade" in the RULE OF OTHARIA trilogy. The final volume, "The King's Last Word" is under development. They have also written three post-apocalyptic fiction stories in the DARK FUTURE series, "Path to Destruction," "The Right Path" and "Zia's Path."
