Very gently his hands cupped her face. Carefully, he wiped away the lone tear that escaped with the pad of his thumb. “Anastasia.” His voice was gentle.


So, he remembers my name! She looked into his eyes, caught by the heat radiating there. Anastasia grabbed the front of his tunic to steady herself.


“Do you cry because of my jest?” he asked softly, placing his large warm hands over hers.


She shook her head.


“Then why? Tell me, little one, and I will solve this problem of yours.”


Anastasia took a deep breath to steady the racing of her heart. Why did this man unsettle her with one look into his eyes? “You do not want me to tell you about my problems.” Anastasia began to turn away, but Val stopped her again.


He tipped her face up to his and placed a gentle kiss against her lips. “Oh, but I do,” he whispered into her ear. “I want to learn all about you. Every one of your secrets, your thoughts, your feelings, I want to hear. And your problems? These especially do I want to hear. I cannot solve problems I do not know about, can I?”


He whispered his words a breath above her lips.


She shivered all the way down to the soles of her feet.

Author Biography:


I love to read and enjoy curling up with a book and a glass of wine. My favorite flower is the rose. I love the scent; I love the colors and I love the symmetry of the petals. The thorns are a reminder to treat everything of beauty with respect. I quilt, crochet, knit and sew. I have two large dogs who keep me company while I write. I like my space, and I like my quiet time when I’m busy plotting my next novel. Sometimes my characters write themselves and it’s all I can do to keep up. Those are the ones who are hard to say good-bye to when the book is finished.
