What is your writing process?
Well, I like to just think of an idea and start writing, I don’t put a lot of thought into the characters, plot or chapter outline. My wife Sam enjoys planning, planning and more planning. She pays a lot more attention to the small details and outlines the entire project.
Do you have any odd writing habits?
Ha ha! Yes. I do. I love watching Netflix and tv while I work. It doesn’t make me as productive as I could be but writing to me is enjoyable so kicking back and watching a movie is a great way to relax while I write.
How important are names to you in your books? Do you choose the names based on liking the way it sounds or the meaning?
I like putting my friends and family’s names into my books, but I don’t put a lot of thought into meaningful names for my stories. Our latest children’s book, Hockey Wars, we posted on Facebook for friends and family to nominate names and then my wife Sam picked them at random.
What writing advice do you have for other aspiring authors?
Keep writing and keep building your author profile. Always invest in yourself and spend a few dollars for good editing, proofing, cover and formatting to end up with the best finished product ever. Being an indie author isn’t always about being the cheapest author.
Do you read your reviews? Do you respond to them, good or bad? Do you have any advice on how to deal with the bad?
I always read and sometimes I respond to them. If they found an error or it was a quality problem I have sent people free books and we have also thanked them for highlighting errors. The bad reviews that are just terrible and not constructive we just ignore. That’s my advice for any author.
Do you have a favorite spot to write? What is it?
I love writing at home in my room. Sam likes to write with music on, but I prefer to have a movie blaring away while I work.
Do you write naked?
LOL no. That would not only horrify me, but it would also horrify my neighbors. Sam doesn’t write naked either!
What do you want your tombstone to say?
I’m not sure. Hmm. How about “Ben Jackson, man, author, father, husband, friend.”
If you had a superpower what would it be?
Oh, I want to be able to strong and never have to work out. Being able to come back to life like Deadpool would be awesome too. Sam would like to be invisible, she’s sneaky like that!
If you were an animal what animal would you be?
A shark. Just cruise the oceans and be the biggest kid in the playground with no stress and no worries. Just eat, eat and eat! Sam would be a squirrel. She loves to run around is always doing something or other.
Where is one place you want to visit that you haven’t been before?
We want to go to New Zealand where they filmed Lord of The Rings and also Scotland to see the castles where they filmed Game Of Thrones.
What were you like as a child? Your favorite toy?
I was a lazy baby and a nightmare when I was a teenager. I used to hang out in my moms washing basket and just sit there all day. Sam was a fat little baby and had the cutest little bowl cut.
