Excerpt:
“Mom!” Anya’s loud shout made her mother jump and her younger brother William giggle with delight. “Make him stop! He’s scaring her away.”
“Her?” Mother stepped back from the flower beds and asked, “Her, who?”
“Penny, my ladybug friend,” Anya said. “William keeps trying to pick her off the leaf. She’s frightened.”
Mother bent to inspect Anya’s latest bug friend. “She’s quite pretty isn’t she?”
“Yes,” Anya beamed. “She’s the prettiest and biggest ladybug I’ve seen so far this summer.”
“I want to hold her,” William said “and hug her.”
“You don’t hug ladybugs.” Anya wagged her finger at her brother. “Hugging might squish them.”
William smiled broadly. “I like squishy bugs.”
Mother picked William up and wiped the dirt from his pudgy fingers. “We want to be gentle with all living creatures and not hurt them.”
“What about spiders?” Anya asked.
“Not even...okay, maybe spiders...but only if they get in the house.”

What makes this book a must-read and/or what inspired you to write this story:
Ladybug, Ladybug is the first of five “Anya and the Bugs of Summer” stories. Inspired by my two youngest grandchildren, it’s my first attempt at a children’s book, but definitely not my last.
My eldest granddaughter, Mackenzie, was my illustrator which made the experience that much better. We’re working on book number two, Bumblebee, Bumblebee, for release by the end of the year.

‘LizBeth Kelley is the children’s book pseudonym for romance author, Nancy Fraser. When not exploring for insects with her youngest grandchild, William, the author divides her time between two very diverse genres.
A resident of Atlantic Canada, both personas enjoy the beautiful scenery, relaxed atmosphere, and wonderful people.
