As the sleigh glided around a bend, Holly leaned her head on Noel’s shoulder, and he bent over to place a kiss on her forehead. The gesture felt intimate and natural as he focused on the deserted road ahead that meandered under a canopy of trees.
Their homes were still separated by an ocean and thousands of miles, but they were together now. She didn’t want to dwell on the future anymore. She wanted to live in the present and build a life from that point forward. And she hoped his kiss promised that he wanted her as much as she wanted him.
Feeling bold, she rested her gloved hand on his thigh and felt his muscles flex from her touch. His response sent a quiver of pleasure racing through her body as though lightning had electrified the air.
The horses picked up speed, and Noel chuckled softly, then reined them back down to a walk. “Whoa, boys.” He chuckled again and slid a sideling glance toward Holly. “We’ll be home soon.”
Home.
Under the velvet night’s ceiling of stars, the word took on a new meaning for Holly. Noel had said it as though it was their home. The word conjured a future together. A future that included days filled with heart-pounding adventures, and nights devoted to making love, interlaced with cherished moments of coffee and conversation by the fireplace.
“Holly…” he turned toward her, and his voice was as molten as his gaze. “I want to kiss you.”
He was asking for more than a kiss, and she knew she longed for that as well. But with so much still left unsaid between them could she risk her heart?

For me, the holiday season brings out the child in all of us, and we see the good in people and believe in magic again. It is my favorite time of year.

Christmas Deadline was so much fun to write. The holiday season is a wonderful time to fall in love. I included the magic of the season, the moment of enchantment when friends realize they are falling in love and added a pinch of mystery to complicate the lives of my heroine and hero.
