Title: Dancing Around the Truth: A Waltz with Destiny

Author: Alanna Lucas

Genre: Regency Romance, Historical Romance

Book Blurb:

Mrs. Philippa Keates thought she’d found her happily ever after when she eloped, but two years later, she’s named a widow. The horror of her husband’s death, and then the shock of discovering that Alfred was a dissolute gambler, has forced Philippa into a life of seclusion. But when she is paid a visit by a woman claiming to be her late husband’s wife and demanding recompense, Philippa knows she must emerge from mourning and discover the whole truth about Alfred. The one person who can assist her is her childhood friend, Benjamin Weston, for whom she once held a tendre until she realized he didn’t feel the same.

Benjamin Weston, the illegitimate son of the late Baron Albryght, has made a name for himself conducting investigations for those willing to pay a high price for discretion. When Philippa arrives on his doorstep, begging for his assistance, Weston fears most of all that she will discover the truth. He insists that his investigations will be done on his terms, vowing to himself that he will continue to keep his distance from Philippa. But as he unravels her mystery, secrets of his own begin to come to light, and soon it becomes clear that there is more at stake than just Philippa’s reputation.

My Review:

Widow Philippa’s world spins out of control when she learns the truth about her husband, but can she reveal her true feelings for her friend, Weston? Philippa never knew she married such a philandering man who only wanted her money until his accidental death. When a woman shows up claiming to be the rightful Mrs. Keats, Philippa turns to her childhood friend, Weston. He agrees to investigate on her behalf. Turmoil churns in her heart as she discovers her husband never loved her. Worse, her unrequited feelings for Weston reemerge when he shows up at her sister’s home, where she is also visiting. The more she pushes Weston for the truth, the further he dances around the truth. Can she risk her heart breaking for a second time by sharing her feelings for Weston? Will he reciprocate her feelings and sweep her up into the dance of love or will he reject her once again?

Dancing Around the Truth is an entertaining historical romance. From the very first page to the last, I couldn’t stop reading. I connected with both Philippa and Weston. This couple has a lot of obstacles to overcome but I enjoyed reading the journey. Dancing Around the Truth is expertly written with emotional narration and a plot peppered with historical accuracy. My heart went out to both Philippa and Weston for their traumatic pasts kept them apart. The plot progression is smooth and flows at a great pace. The trope is a blend of unrequited love and friends to lovers romance. The setting and the characters are what make Dancing Around the Truth an unputdownable Regency romance. If Regency romance is your reading jam, pick up Dancing Around the Truth. If you love reading historical romance with accuracy to the time period, you’ll want to read Dancing Around the Truth. While this is book four in the series, it can be read as a standalone. Highly recommend!
