My Review:

Dana Chambers lost everything when her husband died... but she gained a special gift and a protector to watch over her. She helps Alex, her protector, solve crimes using her gift but as time goes by, she wonders if her gift is a blessing or a curse. Can Alex fulfill his promise to Dana's husband? What happens when Dana meets Joseph, an old vampire, trying to live life among humans? Dana is torn between the past and the present, between Alex and Joseph, between life and death. Can she straddle the precipice or will she be buried six feet under?

Grave Fortune is a mysterious paranormal romantic suspense. Nancy E. Polin takes a fresh approach to vampires and I applaud her for her world-building. Grave Fortune takes the reader on a journey of grief, suspense, moving on, paranormal gifts, and things that can't be explained. It definitely has a survivor's guilt undertone brilliantly played out in Dana's dreams. I instantly liked Alex, even with his surly attitude. My favorite character is Joseph, however. His vampiric ways blend well within society but there's a loneliness too which appealed to me. I know this is book one in a new series but I found myself wishing there was more background information. I didn't quite understand everything that was going on or find a satisfactory conclusion. I'm hoping future books will answer all my questions. As a standalone, Grave Fortune is a good paranormal romantic suspense. As book one in the series, Grave Fortune is an excellent prequel and one I thoroughly enjoyed reading. If you're a fan of vampire suspense, pick up Grave Fortune. If you're a fan of vampire romance, pick up Grave Fortune. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

My Rating: 4.75 stars
