Recent college graduate Holly Schlivnik dreams of being a writer, but fate has other plans. A family crisis throws her into an improbable situation and her life will never be the same. My Review:

Holly wants to be a writer, but a twist of fate leads her to her true calling. Rag Lady is a heartfelt women’s fiction anyone can relate to. What’s our calling and where do we belong? This is an origins story of one of my favorite cozy mystery heroines, Holly. The narration is emotive with a large heaping of classic Holly humor. Characters leap from the page and into your heart. Rag Lady is an unforgettable read.

Let’s start with the characters. Holly is a young woman in her 20s who is feeling out of sorts. Her degree aligns with her dream of becoming a writer. But she’s not getting anywhere. Little does she know her life is about to take off in a whole new direction. I really enjoyed this young Holly. She reminds me of myself at that age. Holly’s rapier wit had me laughing out loud one minute and nodding my head in agreement the next. Holly’s grandmother is my second favorite character. She’s hilarious and very wise. She steers Holly in the right direction while also being 100% honest. So many times, I reminisced about my own great-grandmother while reading. The cast of characters is large but each one has their own originality so it’s easy to keep everyone straight.

The writing, though, is what makes this such an incredible book. The story moves at a quick pace. The dialogue is witty and humorous. The transitions are smooth. The narration is emotive. It’s easy to read and after a while, I forgot I was reading. Yes, I got so wrapped up in Rag Lady, I thought it was real.

Brilliant from start to finish, Rag Lady is a book worth reading.

Author Biography:

Named Best US Author of the Year by N. N. Lights Book Heaven, award-winning cozy mystery author Susie Black was born in the Big Apple but now calls sunny Southern California home. Like the protagonist in her Holly Swimsuit Mystery Series, Susie is a successful apparel sales executive. Susie began telling stories as soon as she learned to talk. Now she’s telling all the stories from her garment industry experiences in humorous mysteries. She reads, writes, and speaks Spanish, albeit with an accent that sounds like Mildred from Michigan went on a Mexican vacation and is trying to fit in with the locals. Since life without pizza and ice cream as her core food groups wouldn’t be worth living, she’s a dedicated walker to keep her girlish figure. A voracious reader, she’s also an avid stamp collector. Susie lives with a highly intelligent man and has one incredibly brainy but smart-aleck adult son who inexplicably blames his sarcasm on an inherited genetic defect.
