Title: Riders of Fire and Ice (The Talisman Series Book 2)

Author: Brett Salter

Genre: Young Adult Fantasy

Book Blurb:

Their back! Julian and Rome are taking their show on the road. This time it is to lovely old England in search of Camelot. While there the Knight and Dragon will be trying to solve the mystery of the Talismans, the mystery of their shadowy stalker and the mystery of sibling rivalry. Prepare to meet some new faces and, of course, some new Darkbrands as the two further their adventures across the pond.

My Review:

The second book in this series takes the boys to England to continue the battle for good. The scenery is well described and takes the reader to the spot where the characters are. The expansion of understanding about Mr. Jones is critical for the moving forward of this story.

Here the two boys are 'joined' by two more youth to form a larger 'team' for good. The action scenes are epic. There might be scenes here a little too frightening for a very young reader. Readers will be swept up in the magic and illusion of this world.

For this reader, there is only one issue. The character of Julian's little sister is a great downer to this book. Her personality is grating, and one wonders how Julian isn't tempted to fratricide. That this alleged human only apologizes once for a nonstop torrent of offensive talk is galling. That is no example to set for young people and her character just lowers enjoyment of this book.

Recommended to fans of the superb first book. Fans of this series will want to read every book. Fans of young Harry will also want to get into this series. The third installment should be another incredible adventure.

My Rating: 4.5 stars

Author Biography:

My background in writing stems mostly from the inspiration I found as a kid when I read Fantasy and Sci-Fi books. These include The Chronicles of Narnia, The Xanth Novels, The Time Quintet, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and everything from Shakespeare to Dr. Seuss. In my formative years, I joined several punk rock bands and wrote songs, poetry, and short stories aplenty. As an adult (?) I took on a dare and wrote the first book in The Talisman Series. I loved the feeling it gave me and the idea of inspiring others so much that I kept writing until I had an entire series.
