Title: Run Don’t Think (The Agency Book 1)

Author: C.C. Bolick

Genre: YA Paranormal Thriller

Book Blurb:

One hundred thousand dollars. A government agency on their trail.

Two teens are about to learn their world will never be safe again.

In this thrill ride, Angel and Skip go on the run after learning her dad works for a government agency. One of his deadliest enemies is out for blood and Angel could be his next victim. The teens must fight to stay alive as their road trip finds them running from cops and dodging undercover agents. No one is safe from the man with glowing eyes that only Angel can see.

Angel has no idea her dad's agency monitors people with special powers or that she's been on their list for years… she definitely never thought vampires could be real.

Excerpt:

Spinning around, I looked over my shoulder at the trees behind me. My eyes darted around us, but I could barely make out the edge of trees. Was someone out there, watching us? I turned back to the car and tried to convince myself it was just my nerves. It had already been a long night before Dad insisted we run. Now this old rusty car had to get us out of Credence tonight. Tonight—no, it had to be morning already. Again, I had the horrible feeling someone was watching, an evil I couldn’t escape.

You’ll never escape who you are.

Where did that thought come from? I put my hands over my face. Maybe I’d finally lost it.

Look at me.

I squeezed my eyes shut and tried to focus on the engine noise. Did I imagine the voice? What if I did? That had to mean I was crazy. But what if… I spun around and looked behind me at the woods. This time, I saw two violet beacons. Moving closer, I made out the shape of a person watching from between two trees. His eyes pulsated, glowing more as he stepped out from the trees and his lips curled into an evil smile. He was taller than me with thick blond hair that fell below his shoulders and a dark beard that made a circle around his lips. Almost like it was painted on his pale skin. He held out his hand…

“Skip,” I said, “someone’s here.”

“What?” Ricky yelled.

“Someone’s here,” I screamed, “someone’s here.”

Skip jumped out of the car. “Where?”

I pointed to the woods. “Behind me.”

Ricky shined the light around the edge of the woods, along the bark of pine trees and bushes with bare branches where leaves once were. Skip scanned the woods, but no one stood at the edge of the trees. No one was watching us. I shivered. Had I imagined the glowing eyes and the voice? Of course—I sighed as I tried to calm my beating heart. No one had violet eyes. A rabbit bounced through the circle of light.

“Angel,” Skip said, “you’re worrying about nothing.”

“I saw someone in the woods. I swear.”

Ricky laughed. “Ain’t no one out here but us, sweetheart. And maybe the coyotes.”

A howl sounded in the woods again, this time from what seemed like miles away.

I rolled my eyes but couldn’t slow the pumping of my heart. Of course they thought I was crazy. Skip went back to looking at the car and I finally got up the nerve to glance at the woods again. No violet eyes watched me. I no longer felt as if an evil force waited in the darkness.

Author Biography:

C.C. Bolick grew up in south Alabama, where she’s happy to still reside. She’s an engineer by day and a writer by night—too bad she could never do one without the other.

Camping, fishing… she loves the outdoors and the warm Alabama weather. For years she thought up stories to write and finally started putting them on paper back in 2006. If you hear her talking with no one to answer, don’t think she’s crazy. Since talking through her stories works best, a library is her worst place to write… even though it’s her favorite!

C.C. loves to mix sci-fi and paranormal—throw in a little romance and adventure and you’ve got her kind of story. She’s written a dozen books including the Leftover Girl series, The Agency series, and The Fear Chronicles.
