Title: The Warrior of the Glen

Author: Michelle Deerwester-Dalrymple

Genre: Historical Romance

Book Blurb:

She has been hiding her true identity for years . . . will this Highland warrior uncover her disguise, and her heart? ♥

After the death of her mother and brother at the hands of the MacKays, Brenna has hidden her identity, pretending to be a lad named Bren. She is comfortable with this guise until she meets a warrior trekking across the Highlands to join the Bruce.

That man happens to be Rafael MacKay, a devilishly handsome Highlander who is also in hiding. He’s taken on the name of Rafe MacLeod, as his MacKay kin are despised by many. And when he meets a strange lad named Bren, he has no compunctions of keeping that lie going.

Until Rafe learns that Bren is really Brenna, and he understands why he had such an odd reaction to her. But she knows him as Rafe MacLeod. Her hiding is a result of a tragic history, and the last thing he wants to do is complicate matters by admitting who he truly is.

Unfortunately, as his love for Brenna deepens, he learns more of her history and realizes if she ever discovers who he is, she would hate him forever. But he doesn’t expect her to fall for him as well, and they have to keep their love hidden from the distrustful eyes of her clan.

When the moment comes that Rafe’s true identity is discovered and he realizes he could lose everything, Rafe is most distraught that Brenna might turn from him, that his MacKay ties will be stronger than his passionate ties to Brenna.

And at that final hour, Brenna must make a choice – a choice that will mean life or death for Rafe.

Excerpt:

Every word from him made her heart take flight. She swallowed the tight nervousness in her throat.

“I wanted to thank ye for today. Ye were brave, stepping in front of the boar as ye did. Ye may have well saved my life.”

Rafe’s discomfort with her accolades brought a light pink shade to his cheeks. She imagined she could even see it under the scruff of his midnight-hued beard of his jawline. A modicum of confidence blossomed in her chest.

“I did nothing any other man would have. I just happened to be closest to ye —”

“Aye, but ye still did it.” Gathering her courage, Brenna took another step toward Rafe, closing the distance between them until their tunics touched. “I thank ye. I think ye deserve —”

“Bren!”

The sharp, angry shout from Kellan surprised them both, causing Bren and Rafe to jump apart as though they had been caught doing something wrong.

And while they hadn’t, Brenna almost had. She rubbed her hand over her cropped hair, trying to cover her actions.

“What are ye doing over here, Bren?” Kellan asked her, but his suspicious eyes didn’t leave Rafe. Kellan watched him like a falcon.

“Kel, I wished to thank the man for saving me —” Brenna started, but Kellan yanked her arm, dragging her away from Rafe. He moved to follow, to halt Kellan, then thought better of it.

“I think ye thanked him enough,” Kellan told her. “Come, ye are needed in the keep. Your uncle will want to see how ye fare after today, as will your da.”

Mentioning her father was a lousy trick, but it worked. Casting a quick glance over her shoulder, Brenna captured Rafe’s gaze, holding it for several heartbeats before stumbling after Kellan.

A mix of irritation and frustration churned inside her.

So much for my first kiss.

It’s a brand-new year, full of possibilities. Did you make any resolutions/goals for 2021? If so, please share one.

I am trying to earn more than what I am paying in ads/promos. Right now I am about breaking even. I have 4-5 novels and 4-6 novellas planned for 2021, which I am hoping helps push me over the edge. I am a college professor and I teach a lot of classes. I would like to cut back on some of that teaching if I can make this writing work. I’ve been trying my hand at it for almost two years, but have only really done some big pushes since April of 2020. Thank you for asking.

Why is your featured book a must-read in 2021?

Look at what some of the reviewers say:

"This book was a pleasure to read. I loved the characters and how they overcame obstacles and deception to meet each other. The romance was steamy but still sweet and it fit perfectly with the story and the characters. The plot was fun and engaging involving deception, disguises, action, love, and a bit of mystery. It had a lot of heart and I loved it all and would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a book with romance, action, deception, and disguise. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review." -- Jenny J, Reviewer
