My Review:

“Your people need you.”

Nivi awakens from a deep slumber to find her people (and the rest of the universe, for that matter) are on the brink of disaster. War is coming and the relentless enemy is hellbent on destroying everything in its path. She must reactivate the urclock in order to stop the enemy. She befriends Moose, a robot with a human spirit, and work together. The more she’s around Moose, the more he means to her. When the opportunity comes for him to be transferred to a human body, will she only see him as the robot or will she let love guide her? As the stakes rise, Nivi must put her feelings on hold as she leads her people into battle. Will the enemy crush her people or will she rise and be victorious?

Wow, what an incredible read! There’s a lot going on in this book and I, for one, loved every minute of it. Like Star Trek: TNG, there’s plenty of action scenes and a lot of characters to keep track of but the reader will be so engrossed in what’s happening, it won’t be a problem. The concept of Maestra is new to this series and added suspense to the plot. The romance between Nivi and Moose is a classic trope but one of my favorites: friends to lovers. But don’t fear science fiction fans, the romance is secondary to the main plot.

Why is this a five-star read? The action scenes are intricate in their detail yet captivating. While reading, I kept gripping my tablet to see what would happen next. The complex character arcs impressed me and the world building from previous books are spot-on. Continuity is a must in any series and Pauline Baird Jones nailed it. While this is a standalone, reading the whole series is recommended.

If you’re a big science fiction and/or science fiction romance fan, you’ve got to read this one! Highly recommend!
