My Review:


It sounds like a fairy tale until her life is in peril. Brenda Whiteside pens a breathtaking romantic suspense in the heart of Austria. The world-building is astounding, the characters are intriguing, and the romance is fraught with danger. I couldn’t stop reading once I started. Yes, I was taken in right away and didn’t exhale until I reached the end.


Let’s start with the world-building. Any suspense book, whether romantic or not, is built on layers of writing. It starts with the setting. Brenda Whiteside takes me by surprise by choosing Austria as the setting. I’ve never been to Austria but thanks to reading this book, I feel like I’ve traveled there. The mystery itself is ingrained into the world-building. It’s so well done. Brenda Whiteside is an expert when it comes to world-building and her layering makes for an unforgettable read.


The romance is fantastic. These two characters have an attraction, but it’s not expected. There are serious things going on…who has time for romance? Like in life, romance comes when least expected. There’s a realism to this romance I found refreshing. There’s also high drama, suspense, and intrigue.


The characters are written with precision and depth of feeling. I connected with August right away. She’s a heroine everyone can relate to. The rest of the characters are interesting, even the ones trying to do bad things.


A romantic suspense grounded in today’s world, A Legacy of Love and Murder is a gripping read worth savoring.
