My Review:

 

Sara Donovan is counting the days until graduation from university when she receives a strange package. Inside is an invitation to participate in a contest, an envelope containing photos of her investigating previous crimes, and a big diamond worth a ton of money. She dives in and finds herself entangled in an amazing race battling eight daunting contestants. Whoever completes the seven stages of puzzles and challenges first is the winner. But when a body is discovered, Sara has second thoughts. Can she complete the contest and win the grand prize, or will she wind up dead?

 

Lucky Secrets is a fabulous cozy mystery filled with excitement, tension, high stakes, quirky characters, intrigue, and an adorable dog sidekick. The descriptive narration is immersive and details each scene to a t. Readers will get to experience every moment Sara does. B.T. Polcari layers the story with false clues, high-octane adventure, puzzles galore, and a mystery to solve. His world-building is flawless. I enjoy the aspect of puzzling and figuring things out along with Sara and her adorable dog. Fans of the tv shows, The Amazing Race and The Traitors, will love Lucky Secrets.

 

Let’s start with the characters. From the start, Sara’s inner dialogue kept me invested in the story and gave me comic relief. Sara is an honest character, to a fault at times, and it endeared me to her. Even though she doesn’t look it, she is a brilliant detective. She sees things others miss. I connected with her on so many levels. 

 

The mystery itself is so well-conceived with quite a few twists and turns, I didn’t know who the killer was until it was revealed to me. The author writes the mystery with false clues, a large cast of suspects, and tons of puzzles and secrets to solve. If you’re a puzzle lover, you’ll want to read this book. I thoroughly enjoyed Lucky Secrets and look forward to reading more from B.T. Polcari.

B.T. Polcari is a graduate of Rutgers College of Rutgers University, an award-winning mystery author, and a proud father of two wonderful children. He’s a champion of rescue pups (Mauzzy is but one example), craves watching football and basketball, and, of course, loves reading mysteries. Among his favorite authors are Richard Osman, D.P. Lyle, Frederick Forsyth, Robert B. Parker, and Michael Connelly. He is also an unapologetic fantasy football addict. He lives with his wife in scenic Chattanooga, Tennessee.
