Title: Alien Adoration (Alien Next Door #1)

Author: Jessica E. Subject

Genre: Sci-Fi Romance

Book Blurb:

Erotic dreams fill her with need…

Night after night, Rachel fantasizes about her sexy, playboy neighbor. But in her small town, no one changes, least of all the bad boy next door. But when Luke rescues her not once but twice from disastrous dates, she dares to believe her knight in black leather armor may be the right man for her after all.

Until she learns the truth...

Life on Earth has never been easy for Luke. Stranded as a little boy, he struggled to craft an existence for himself, but he never forgot the first human he met--and he never stopped wanting to see her again. Returning to Hanton, Luke longs for Rachel. Yet, nothing goes as he plans, and Rachel barely notices him. Convincing her he isn't like all the jerks she's dated means telling her the truth, but can she handle it?

Can she overcome her fears, or will she deny her alien adoration and leave him stranded once more?

Rachel took a drink of her coffee then shuffled some papers. She had no appointments until ten, but had to be at work earlier for possible walk-in clients. More time to think about how her neighbor stood her up.

After he’d dropped her off at home the day before, she’d stumbled into her house with rubber-like legs. He’d touched her. Closing the door behind her, she’d slumped to the floor.

Even now, her skin tingled with the sensation of his hand on her back.

When the chatter of women caught her attention, she rolled her chair to the farthest corner from the doorway. The church ladies came in every Monday morning, and she dreaded Mrs. Norris demanding answers as to why her date with Sol didn’t work out. The woman was the last person she wanted to see when thinking about Luke. If Mrs. Norris couldn’t see her in her office cubicle, maybe she would leave her alone.

“Rachel, my dear, what happened yesterday?” The woman waltzed into her cubicle.

She cringed. No such luck.

Opening a blank file on her computer, she typed away, trying to look busy. “I’m sorry, Mrs. Norris, but Sol and I just didn’t have anything in common. Then he left to hang out with his friend.”

“He said you dismissed him, told him it wasn’t going to work.”

Not until after she had fallen into the river and he’d only laughed at her. “No point in wasting his time, right?”

“I guess not.” She pursed her lips. “I just wish you would have told me you were leaving. But listen, there’s a dance over in Allentown on Friday night. Always a bevy of single men there. I want you to come with me, and you can pick your own fella.”

God, no. Like she wanted to be eyed-up and groped by a bunch of middle-aged and old men. “I, uh… I have other plans.”

“Is that right? What are they?”

She bounced her foot. How was she going to get out of this?

Christine leaned over the cubicle wall and stared at her with an evil smirk. “Yeah, what are your plans?”

She drummed her fingers on her desk. Why couldn’t she be quicker on her feet?

“Well?” Mrs. Norris asked.

“She’s having dinner with me.”

Rachel gasped. Had she heard his voice, or just imagined it?

Luke stepped past the old bat, and into her office. “Good morning, Rachel. I’m sorry I missed you at the coffee shop this morning.” He nodded to the other women listening. “Mrs. Norris, Miss Shaw. Would you mind if I have a few moments alone with this beautiful young woman?”

Christine ducked away immediately, and Rachel swore she heard her friend squee. Mrs. Norris, on the other hand, gave him a ferocious glare. “I’ve heard about you. You’re no good for her.”

Tension blanketed her small cubicle, but Luke grinned back at the old woman. “I believe Rachel can make her own decisions.”

With one last glare, Mrs. Norris huffed off.

Alone with him in her office, she froze, unable to form a coherent thought. After a deep breath, her heart jumped back to life, pumping faster than ever. Luke Jones had more or less invited her to dinner Friday night. What was she going to wear? Oh God, she had to shave.

Luke hesitated to take a step forward. Everyone had left them alone, but Rachel remained backed into the corner, her cheeks a vibrant shade of pink. She stared at him, wide-eyed, like he was a predator going in for the kill. Was she afraid of him?

He held out his hand. Would she take it, or was it time to admit she’d never be his?

A spark of electricity shot through his body, and he groaned. Her fingers grazed across the tips of his. Grasping his hand, she stood, but still remained silent.

When she was upset, he ached for her. The emotions she gave off now were different, a little fear and something else, a tingling sensation he felt in his groin.

“So, will you have dinner with me?” He braced for her rejection.

Still holding onto him, she swallowed. “Dinner?”

“Yes, Friday night.” He clenched his jaw, the wait for her answer excruciatingly long.

Here came the rejection. “If you don’t want to, that’s fine. I just thought I’d save you from Mrs. Norris.”

Her grip tightened before she released his fingers. “Sorry, I’d love to have dinner with you. It’s just….”

She doesn’t date aliens. Of course. Who would?

“I’m not into the whole one-night stand thing.”

Shit. She’d seen the women leaving his house. How could she not with all the commotion they made? How could he prove to her he only wanted her? No one but her. If only she would give him a chance.

He tucked a loose strand of her hair behind her ear, and she didn’t flinch. “I promise I’m after more than one night with you.”

Chewing on her bottom lip, she drove him crazy with anticipation. He needed to know.

Finally, she smiled, a playful gleam in her eyes. “Okay, where would you like me to meet you?”

“I’ll pick you up.” He clenched his fists to contain his excitement. If they weren’t in the bank, he would have wrapped his arms around her and spun her in circles.

Her eyes grew wide, terror all over her face. “But, what should I wear?”

He grinned, picturing her naked as he’d seen her at her bedroom window. “Anything you want.”

A throat cleared behind him. “Rachel, Mr. and Mrs. Smith are here.”

Her expression sobered. “Thank you, sir. I’ll only be a moment.”

Luke turned his head to ensure the other man had left before he leaned in to kiss her cheek. “I look forward to our date on Friday.”
