Here at Book Heaven, we love meeting authors from all over the world. It’s our pleasure to introduce you to Ben and Sam, a husband-wife writing team. We first worked together a couple of years ago. They’re back with us and we sat down for this interview. So, grab your favorite beverage and join us. Ben and Sam, take it away!


What is your writing process?

When we start writing our children’s books, I’m usually the one that just starts getting words down, but Sam is more of the planner. She carefully outlines the entire Hockey Wars book, breaking down each chapter and then I come in and fill in the rest. Then, it goes back to Sam for revisions, and finally to our editor Mary.


Do you have any odd writing habits?

Umm, I like watching tv, movies, or YouTube while I write lol while Sam prefers some music. I like to have something to watch.


What book do you wish you could have written?

Hmm, something that sold about 10 million copies!


Just as your books inspire authors, what authors have inspired you?

I don’t know which authors have inspired me, but I wish I could put together a story like Wilbur Smith or James A. Michener.


How important are names to you in your books? Do you choose the names based on liking the way it sounds or the meaning?

We like to use friends and family names for the characters in most of our books. We’ve also done some competitions, so readers can choose the names for the next books.


What do you consider to be your best accomplishment?

Getting as far as we have as self-published authors.


Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Probably still writing books!


Have you always liked to write?

I didn’t always like to write, but I always loved to read.


Are you a plotter or a pantster?

100% Definitely a pantster!


Do you write naked?

No, I think it would horrify the rest of the family who like to walk in and out of the office at random times during the day!


Have you ever been in trouble with the law?

No! I’m a good boy and Sam is a good girl!


Do you drink? Smoke? What’s your vice?

I used to smoke but quit. I love candy lol and junk food!


If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Mine would be superhuman strength and invisibility. Sam’s would be strength and time travel.


What secret talents do you have?

I don’t really have any, but Sam is a very good hockey player!

Author Biography


Ben Jackson was born in Tasmania, Australia, and is a successful indie author that has been writing for almost a decade. Ben is married to Sam Lawrence, and together they specialize in self-publishing children’s books. They have been married for several years and have traveled together between Australia and Canada.


Together, Ben and Sam have published a series of children’s books called My Little Fart and Hockey Wars, as well as If I Was A Caterpillar and several other non-fiction books.
