Title: Blinded Me With Science
Author: Tara September
Genre: New Adult
Book Blurb:
What could go wrong when the good girl gets stuck with the bad boy? After all, it's just chemistry… Emerson Powers has been so focused on obtaining her science degree that she’s neglected the more social aspects of college life. But she's ready to spice things up her junior year with a real hands-on lesson in biology. The assignment is simple enough—teach the rock star’s son how to be good, while he shows her how to be bad. Two objectives, one outcome … will the lesson be love or heartbreak? Steel is no longer the bad boy Emerson knew from prep school living under his dad's legendary shadow, and he’s set to prove it by helping her complete her secret list of desired college experiences. And if he can convince her that they are meant to be together along the way, even better! While teaming up on experiments, both in and out of the classroom, Emerson discovers a new side to Steel. Leaving her to question everything she thought she knew. Still, is it enough to forgive the past or just mere chemistry? Spoiler, science always wins!
Excerpt:
To say Emerson is surprised to see me is an understatement. Actresses in slasher films have looked less horrified.
But I can understand her shock. After all, I already knew she was attending Thatcher and its been a minute.
I shrug my shoulders. Not that I’m stalking her or anything. I was only curious to see where Emerson ended up post-graduation. If she was doing okay, stuff like that. It’s how I learned about this hidden gem of a college in the first place. So yeah, I knew I’d likely see her eventually. Especially since earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Thatcher’s business school requires additional mathematics and science courses, which has always been Emerson’s thing.
Shaking my head, I steal a sideways glimpse. This girl … the only one who’s made me want to be a better person. She changed my whole messed-up life and has no clue whatsoever. And from the way she’s scrunching her pert nose and squinting her beautiful, blue eyes behind her glasses, she’s not at all happy to see me. I don’t blame her. In any case, I’m back now and she was going to have to deal with me.
Doesn’t help that I totally just blew our first meeting again. My bad! But every witty line I’d ever rehearsed or imagined went straight out the window the moment she aimed her wide, blue eyes, as deep as any ocean, on me.
The all-too-seldom pictures she’s posted over the years did nothing to prepare me for seeing real-life Emerson again. Her long, brown hair is in a cute knot on the top of her head, she has a sexy pair of black-rimmed glasses on, and all that covers that shapely body of hers is a teeny, cotton short set that shows off her smooth thighs and long legs. Put together, the ensemble is fucking adorable—and hot. I always considered Em an understated beauty, but now I don’t know how to describe it. She seems more comfortable in her own skin, or something like that. What I do know is that being away from Franklin Academy and Los Angeles has done her good. Hell, it has for me too.
Our professor has been talking for a while and I haven’t caught a word. If I’m going to show Emerson that I’m a changed man, not paying attention in class won’t win me any points. I pull my laptop out from my satchel and open it up. I’m ready to be Mr. Diligent and listen intently to the quirky Dr. Albright, who is giving off a strong granola vibe. I peg her as someone who would not be impressed with the fact that I’m the son of Diesel.
I like her already.
“This year’s seminar will consist of individual tests based on my lectures and monthly team projects, partner presentations, and joint essays, which will take up the other half of your grade,” announces Dr. Albright, and the classroom groans, including Emerson. I think it sounds interesting though. “This means you will be paired up for the entire semester, and if your partner fails, your grades will suffer too. It’s a symbiotic relationship.”
Whoa, what now? The resulting uproar in the room is almost comical, as are the barrage of questions being aimed at the professor faster than the tempo of one of Diesel’s rock ballads.
