5 stars for Call of the Cambion by @WestonAndrew #bookreview #darkfantasy #horror #paranormal

Title: Call of the Cambion

Author: Andrew P. Weston

Genre: Dark Fantasy/horror/paranormal

Book Blurb:

Cursed to live his life as a Cambion – a half-demon, half-human hybrid – Augustus Thorne has spent centuries hunting the creature responsible for his existence. His own spawn-father, Fanon. Along the way, Augustus has built something of a reputation as a demon slayer. However, his reputation proves to be a two-edged sword, for while it keeps him safe, it prevents Augustus from forming a relationship. Something he yearns for with all his heart. Neither does it protect him from the wrath of the demondim, who view his activities as a threat.

In an effort to overcome these obstacles, Augustus finds it necessary to confront the darker aspects of his Cambion nature. Something, it seems, he must embrace fully. Only then will he be free to make his own choices, and in a position to end his father once and for all.

Alas, such a path results in dire consequences.

My Review:

As he embraces his darker cambion side, Augustus comes face to face with unforeseen consequences. He never asked for this life, never wanted it, yet he is, half-human, half-demon. His mission is clear: to hunt down and eviscerate Fanon, the man responsible for his existence. Augustus has spent centuries hunting down and slaying as many demons as he can and has the reputation to prove it. Foreign feelings of love and yearning fill his heart yet it's complicated. He has incurred the wrath of the demondim, who view him as a threat. In order to free himself of all of these obstacles, he must come to grips with his darker nature. What happens as a result propels Augustus down a path he doesn't anticipate. Will he answer the call of the cambion and end his father once and for all or will he transform into something more sinister than his father ever was?

Call of the Cambion is a riveting dark paranormal fantasy I couldn't put down. This is book two in the series and we continue with Augustus' journey. I connected with Augustus right away and found his conflict immensely entertaining. While his coldness is vastly different from other great fantasy/horror characters, I was captivated. The plot moves at an excellent pace with intricate descriptive narration. Andrew Weston's gift for world-building is on display and it makes for an unputdownable read. Every detail, every nuance, every conflict, every emotion, is beautifully described so that the reader becomes a part of the story. If you're a paranormal, horror, or dark fantasy reader, you'll want to read Call of the Cambion. A brilliant novel not to be missed, Call of the Cambion needs to be read by the masses. Highly recommend!
