“Finish your coffee, and I’ll drive you back to the inn. I understand they have a nine o’clock curfew or they lock you out.”


“I’m a big girl. I can drive myself.”


“You shouldn’t be out on the streets on your own this late at night.


“I have the four-digit combination for the back door. Shouldn’t be a problem.”


“I wasn’t asking. Besides, I’d never hear the end of it from my mother if she found out I didn’t see you safely to the door. I’ll have someone bring your car around in the morning.”


Firmly put in her place, she drained her coffee, disposed of her cup and napkin. She buttoned her jacket as she headed toward the door. He was right behind her turning off the lights.


“It’s Willow Springs. I think I’d be safe here vs where I’ve hung out the last eight years.”


“Get in the truck, Cici. It’s not an option.”


She saluted him before she opened the truck door and slipped inside. Tad followed suit, a grin on his face. She couldn’t help her own grin that immerged, despite the brisk conversation they’d just engaged in.


“So about joining us to search for the perfect Christmas tree.”


“Actually, about that…”


“No excuses, Cici. I know you have nothing else planned,” he cut her protest short. “Relax, enjoy the holiday while you’re here. Mom and the girls would love to have you join us.”


What about him? Would he love to have her tag along, too?
