Medusa, cursed and deadly gorgon, is over heroes barging into her home. But when jaded, ex-professor Jason Walker ambles into her temple, instead of unleashing her curse, she’s consumed by an unexpected passion for the rambling academic.

Loving a mortal will end in heartbreak.

On a quest to prove his eccentric theories, Jason finds not just a gorgon, but an engaging woman. Each visit, he falls deeper for a lover he can never see. He’ll pay whatever the price to be with her even if one careless glance will end his life.

Can love truly conquer all?

This book is part of the Five Mortal Realms series which includes Not a Chocolate Snowball’s Chance in Hades and Moonlight Reunion (free with newsletter sign-up) All can be read independently.

Excerpt

He’d come back. She was overcome with a compulsion to straighten her dress and threaten her snakes into submission. It was fine. No big deal. The racing of her heart was merely her reaction to the warning bells. Had nothing to do with the echo of his voice or that she had another chance to enjoy this mad, gorgeous mortal.

“I told you to leave and save yourself.” She tried to add a sternness to her voice, but Goddess help her, she couldn’t. “Why did you come back?”

“For you, of course. And me. Yesterday, when we talked, I started to think about what you said about living and life. Here’s you, suffering, stuck in this temple. And I’m being the prat professor swanning in with no regard for you beyond what I wanted to believe.”

Carrying a large basket, he wound his way around stone statues, pigeons beating their wings in the rafters at his progress. Each time he dipped and swayed around long-dead adversaries, she found her lips parting in a sigh.

She skulked among the shadows, creeping closer to enjoy the view. Today’s treat was a tight midnight-blue shirt, stretched against a lightly muscled chest. And he was still talking. She should really listen instead of ogle from the darkness.

“I deserved a good cursing. Been cursed plenty by my brother and university colleagues,” he said, stopping not far from Athena’s statue, toeing aside crumbled marble. “Never thought I’d be as bad as them but here we are. So this is me making amends for being an idiot. You deserve to have some of that life you wanted for me. Mates, friends, don’t abandon each other to suffer. I’ve got lunch. Maybe we can set aside the whole vengeance and turning me to stone for a while.”

Gods help her. She compulsively tugged at the folds of skirts and darted looks at him. He set the basket down and opened it. He had really lovely hands. And he’d brought gifts. Her heart skipped a beat, and part of her wanted to dance. Yes, her, the gorgon who’d slayed hundreds, wanted to spin and sashay her hips. For once, a man didn’t come to slay her but pay her court.

Unless she was wrong.

The heat in her cheeks ebbed as oil lanterns creaked and swung in the breeze. When she looked around, the brief elation faded. Damp, dusty stone temple in a perpetual state of decay wasn’t exactly romantic.

She was surrounded by a saturation of death. Not a place where anyone came to do anything like woo. And she was the most un-wooable creature in the five mortal realms.
