Title: Grasp of the Night
Author: Sadaf Zulfikar
Genre: Occult Horror, Paranormal Thriller
Alice has lost everything—her family, her memory, and even her true identity. Alone, she has knit lies around her, to ward off constant fear of the unknown. In an unforeseen circumstance, her world collides with her neighbor’s boyfriend, Derek. The air between them draws them closer with each passing day, but Alice knows that they can’t be together—not when she owes her heart to a man from her previous life. Meanwhile, a cult that calls themselves Grasp, re-summon a demon to prey on lonely innocents each night. Now they’re after Alice, leaving a trail of blood in their wake. Alice needs to find out why, but to do so she must uncover her past. Will the secrets of Alice’s past turn out to be a solution or a life-threatening problem with no escape?
Sometimes a reader has a hard time getting a hold of the plot of a book. This book starts out with a fantastic intro that initially gripped me tightly. I was only through the prologue when I thought I loved this book. Then, as the book went on, it became very hard to grasp what was going on. Just when I thought I had an understanding of who Alice was, it slipped out of my grasp.
Readers who want to be carried through the journey without really knowing where it is going will love this book. The author created twists and turns that will keep the most inquisitive reader guessing. There is a segment nearer towards the end where there is a certain explanation of what the book is about. That might have worked better if it was much earlier in the book. Well written and gripping, Grasp of the Night really grabs a reader in its grasp. I was only a couple of days into reading this and I started dreaming about the book. It really resonates in a reader's mind.
Fans of the movies with Freddie of nightmares and of movies where a destination is final will love this book. Fans of intense paranormal books that are more involved than the typical work will love this book. I recommend this book to people who want a good scare.

Sadaf Zulfikar grew up writing poetry and stories. An IT engineer by profession, she continuously dreams of story ideas that she scribbles on her (already quite long) ‘to write list’. Her other hobbies include reading fiction and listening to songs (most of which have some connection with her stories). She is a procrastinator, but only due to her vivid imagination. ‘Grasp of the Night’ is her first novel, with more in store for the Grasp series.
