My Review:
Looking for a slow-burn romantic suspense that’ll send chills down your spine? Hiding in Montana is that and more. Lucinda Race has penned one of the most compelling romantic suspense I’ve ever read. It has everything you want: a heroine on the run from a very bad man, a strong hero willing to risk his life, a glorious setting, a slow-burn romance, and a villain who needs to be locked up. An unputdownable read from start to finish.
I connected with the main characters right away. They were both minor characters in book one, and I liked them immensely. Polly was traumatized by some nefarious event from her past. It’s not clear at the start what happened but clues were peppered throughout the story. Polly deserved the love Clint offered but she’s unsure. What happened next was so well-written and full of emotion. Classic Lucinda Race.
The descriptive narration is second to none and truly exemplifies what makes a terrific romantic suspense. The setting is a large ranch in Montana. There’s a feeling of family on the ranch which I enjoyed. They all band together when Polly is threatened. The suspense sublot is a like a creeping fog. It stays around the edges until it overwhelms you. Brilliantly done.
Now, I believe this is Lucinda Race’s first foray into romantic suspense and I’m impressed. A sophisticated story with just enough suspense to propel the plot. It’s romance-forward so the main focus is on the relationship between Polly and Clint.
If you love romantic suspense in a rural setting, this book is for you.
