Title: Just a Fling

Author: Katherine Grace

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Blurb:

Law student Dawn Mathison’s steamy summer romance with solar developer Callan Marlowe is just a fling…until it isn’t. Swept off her feet–and into lots of different positions–by the sexy Brit, Dawn believes Callan is The One...right until he dumps her.

But that was last summer. Now, Dawn is living her dream with a kick-ass job in New York City and couldn't care less about Callan. Not one bit. Truly.

Callan left Dawn broken-hearted, confused, and pissed off. But, dammit, he doesn't do serious relationships. Not after his past. It doesn't matter anyway because he'll never see Dawn again. Which is for the best. Really.

When a twist of fate brings Callan back into Dawn’s life–and into her office–their sizzling attraction reignites. Maybe this time around, they won't get too serious. But fate has a sense of humor. Because Callan thinks Dawn is The One who can help him. And maybe turn their hot affair into something more?

My Review:

When is a fling more than casual? When it leads to love. According to the author, this is a modern second chance romance. I would amend it to just second chance romance, which is one of my all-time favorite tropes. This has an intriguing premise, but does it measure up?

The characters are well-written. I like both Dawn and Callan and their point of views. The characters are easy to relate to with plenty of flaws, while the main characters fade into the background.

The plot moves at a slow pace with a few surprises. It’s fairly predictable towards the end. The dialogue is very strong.

The romance is second chance, but I didn’t feel a strong connection between them. Awkward? Sure, but that’s to be expected. At times, the romance seemed forced. When I pick up a romance, I want to be seduced by the characters and fall in love. That didn’t happen here. If I were to describe this book, I’d call it a modern romantic fiction.

If you’re looking for a romance like you’ve never seen before, pick up Just a Fling.

My Rating: 4.25 stars
