Since he hadn't told her she needed to stay put, Kelly got up and wandered around the room. Ornate, expensive-looking vases and delicate figurines sat on proud display within lighted glass cases. A gleaming silver tea set provided a centerpiece to the long sideboard positioned beneath a huge English landscape painting. On the tea set's right stood an exquisite crystal decanter surrounded by eight tiny, diamond-cut stemmed goblets. The petite glasses almost looked out of place when everything else in the room appeared to be sized in a much grander scale. She felt small and insignificant in a space filled with so many splendors, and yet a part of her recalled her parents owning some attractive things, though none of this quality or magnificence.


"Sit down, Kelly. This is not a room for little girls. You could break something."


Kelly returned to the table. "Do you own all this?"


"Yes. I want you to look over these documents, sign at the bottom, and I will countersign for you. I should have a third party serving as a witness or a notary, but given the sensitive nature of my arrangements, I seldom resort to including an outsider during my negotiations."


"What are they?" Kelly asked, hesitant to touch, much less peruse, the small stack of legal-looking papers set before her.


"Consent forms stating that you are entering this relationship with me on a purely consensual basis."


"I already agreed. Why do I have to sign forms?"


"For legal reasons. Some young ladies go back on their word and cry abuse in order to obtain more money. These papers state that you understand, in addition to giving you rewards, I will also dispense punishments, which you agree to accept."


Kelly swallowed. "Punishments?"


"Yes."


"What sort of punishments?"


"They are detailed in the document. Why don't you read through them first then ask your questions?"


Unease trickled down her back as she scowled at the stack. "Because I'm not sure I'll understand anything."


He reached over to flip the pages then pointed to a specific spot. "Read that."


"Such punishments will include, but are not limited to, spankings, paddlings, strappings, whippings, and canings."


She gazed at the man sitting beside her. His eyes appeared gentle and kind, but she suspected he could be unrelenting and firm if he chose. The question was, would he also be cruel? "Will you hurt me?"


"Any discipline I administer will be painful, yes. But my intent is to teach you a lesson, not injure or damage you in any way. So, hurt, yes. Harm, no."


"Will I have a choice?"


"Once you sign this document, you are essentially giving me permission to do as I see fit with you. As you said, you already agreed verbally. This has your consent stated in writing as proof."


"I didn't agree to let you punish me."


Though he smiled, he didn't contradict her. The very fact she went with him without argument or fuss gave him the right to treat her as he wished. These forms merely clinched the deal. "How will you do it?"


"What do you mean?"


"Will I be physically restrained or tied down in any way?"


"I sense that is a hard limit for you."


"I don't like being placed in a position where I can't get free if I need to. I panic."


"All right." When he drew the papers back, she snatched them out of his hand.


"No. I'll sign."


"I was merely going to add a sentence that states I will only restrain you when I deem there's a potential for harm if I don't."


Kelly shook her head. "It's okay. I'm just a little scared is all."


He cupped her chin. "I don't want you to fear what we will do together, Kelly. Most of my discipline will be open-handed swats on your bare bottom. I will pull down your underwear, put you over my knee, and spank you until I determine you've learned your lesson. I can be very strict, but I am fair. Behave as I wish, and we shouldn't have any problems at all."


She nodded then glanced down at the documents again. She could refuse, accept the three hundred dollars, and go back out into the cold, or she could sign over her rights and give him complete control over her.


"You said this will be only for a trial month?"


"Yes, I added a paragraph you'll need to initial at the end of the month that states you agree to remain under my guardianship for a year, then, if things work out between us, I'll have you agree to stay another two years or until you reach the age of twenty-one."

Author Biography:


Although Kathryn is relatively new to the spanking romance market, she is not new to stories where the hero spanks the heroine. In fact, most of her novels have some sort of spanking in them. However, even in Kathryn's novels where the hero firmly believes in using spanking as a deterrent, he has no desire to cause the heroine injury and takes no delight in hurting the woman of his heart. In fact, sometimes he finds it extremely difficult to follow through on his threats or promises.


To date, all of her heroes are dominant, alpha males who are extremely protective of the women they love. However, part of that protectiveness includes the need for a certain amount of control. They do not suffer defiance or disobedience lightly. Even so, these men aren't infallible, and they do make mistakes, but love and respect will always triumph in the end.
