Due to Covid, many grandparents are unable to visit their grandchildren. This book gives tips and techniques on how to interact playfully with grandchildren on the phone or computer. By using props found around the house, they can continue to have fun during isolation.
Excerpt:
I am a 67-year-old grandmother of three grandchildren, and due to Covid isolation, I have been unable to visit them for over fifteen months, which has been very difficult for me. Because I am a retired Arts and Crafts teacher, I devised techniques for interacting with them over the phone and computer. I wrote this book, my second to be self-published this year, to share my methods with other grandparents who are missing their grandchildren.
In the book, I relate some of the methods I use to stay in touch with my younger grandchildren using the phone or computer. I describe how to:
· Accumulate enough “characters” to keep the grandchild happy playing for at least an hour.
· Compare suitable phone packages and applications
· Make non-technical props suitable for play, such as teddies, monsters, and other characters lying around the house waiting for discovery. Younger children prefer short games, and I have a chapter on these called Five Minute Games.
I believe that it will help many grandparents cope with the loneliness of missing their grandchildren, as the techniques have helped me. I can now spend up to one and a half hours playing with my 6-year-old grandson on the phone, which is an enormous comfort.
