Excerpt


She pawed at the crack beside the den’s door. The bane of her existence eased open a little. Her reflection shone in the polished glass; a black feline of the house-cat variety stared back. A tight squeeze and the door eased open, revealing her quarry. She slid into the room, refusing to allow herself to gaze at any of the occupants. If I look directly at someone, I could draw attention to myself. Tonight, she couldn’t risk taking any chances. She slunk along the edge of the wall and hid behind one of the Santiagos’ many potted palms. These bushy, tropical plants gave her unlimited places to hide.


Now safely tucked away, she scanned the room’s occupants. Tonight, I have to get enough evidence to have Santiago arrested. The disgusting pig.


“Someone is lying. I will find out.” The man nearest the fire, Santiago, whirled to face the group of assembled men and slammed his fist down on the mantel. “You know I will.”


“But boss…we’d never spill. We know that’s a death sentence,” a man hidden in one of the tall chairs said.

Donna Kunkel is a paranormal romance author. Within the pages of her tales you can visit with witches, wizards, shape-shifters, and other fantasy creatures. Figurines of the magic realm surround her computer for inspiration. She lives at the edge of the Colorado mountains with her husband of many years and her two dogs.
