Title: Moonlight Over Montana

Author: Lucinda Race

Genre: Clean small town western romance, Single mom romantic suspense

Book Blurb:

Single mom, Maggie Brady lives above the Filler Up Diner in River Junction, Montana. When fire destroys the business Maggie built, her good friend Jed Steel is there to help them escape from the harrowing flames. Except, the fire wasn't an accident. It was arson. Reluctantly, Maggie accepts the temporary home Jed offers, unsure why anyone would threaten her or her teenage daughter, Susie.

Tall, lanky, with a rolling gait, a salt and pepper mustache, and a quirky sense of humor, Jed is the primary caretaker of the horses at Grace Star Ranch. Disowned by his family, the cowboy has also had a soft spot for Maggie for a long time. However, he's never felt worthy of a woman like Maggie. How could she fall for somebody like him when his own family doesn't want him?

During their stay at the ranch, Jed teaches Susie to ride and helps her to develop into a talented barrel racer. And while Maggie has only seen Jed as a friend before, the moonlight over Montana is close to convincing her to take a second chance on love. But someone is watching Susie - someone who could use Susie's talent if only Maggie wasn't in the way. Will the secret that Susie's keeping destroy Maggie and Jed's romance before it has a chance to begin?

Moonlight Over Montana is the third novel in the Cowboys of River Junction Series, although each book can be read as standalone. A sweet and clean romantic story with a guaranteed happily ever after. Happy reading!

My Review:

A deadly fire gives unrequited love a second chance under the moonlit skies. I’ve adored Jed throughout this series, and I was thrilled he’d have a chance at love with Maggie. Both have been burned by love in the past. Lucinda Race takes readers on a roller coaster ride with Moonlight Over Montana and it’s worth every minute of agony. I couldn’t stop reading this book.

Let’s start with the characters. Maggie is one of the hardest working, loyal, supportive women in this small town. So, when she loses all she owns to an arsonist, she learns it’s okay to receive generosity and kindness. Susie, Maggie’s teenage daughter, loves staying at the ranch where Jed works. She especially loves being around the horses and learning to ride. She’s got a secret, though, one which may destroy those she loves. Jed is in charge of the horses and loves his job. He’s carried a torch for Maggie for years but doesn’t think he’s good enough for her. He’s one of the sweetest cowboys I’ve read. He’s sweet, caring, devoted, and perfect for Maggie. The rest of the characters round out the story. Each one is original and has their own voice.

The setting and descriptive narration work well together to make this story come alive. The setting is in a small town in Montana. Lucinda Race details the ins and outs of ranch life and being a part of this small town. It’s so lush, it carries the reader away.

The suspense subplot is well-written with plenty of clues dropped along the way. I kept wondering who started the fire and who was behind the nefarious activity. When it was revealed, I actually gasped in surprise.

The romance is tender second chance and is written for romance readers. There’s tons of emotion and tension. Lucinda Race writes a realistic romance that’ll melt your heart, like it did mine.

My Rating: 5+ stars
