Title: Sanctuary: The Pirates of the Eastern Shore

Author: Morgan Malone

Genre: Historical Pirate Romance. Gay Romance

Book Blurb:

On a small island nestled in the Caribbean, a fortunate few have found respite from the sea and refuge from their past. Sanctuary.

Captain Sebastian Renaud has embarked on his first voyage in command of the Ebony Lion, as Captain Sin—leader of the fierce Pirates of the Eastern Shore. Setting sail across the mighty Atlantic to pursue his own fortune and fame, Sebastian also seeks release from his unrequited love for Mathias Alden, former captain of the mighty Lion, and now husband to Denise, his childhood sweetheart. Sanctuary.

Sir Pembroke Marlowe received a hidden treasure in parley with a treacherous pirate who stole his great pirate ship, Satan’s Mermaid and his pirate name, Redbeard. Pembroke was left alive, with a few of his loyal men, a worn sloop, and an uninhabited island. Sanctuary.

On his return from his maiden voyage, a violent hurricane wrests Sebastian from the helm of the Lion and sends him into the sea, where he drifts, unconscious, until the sea tosses him out of its grip, into the arms of his childhood sweetheart, the survivor of a violent assault, who has herself found protection on the sheltered island. Sanctuary.

Of the many shocks that await Sebastian as he recovers—and Pembroke, as he discovers the castaway—is the immediate and unexplained attraction each feels for the other. Given the times, neither has ever truly known the love of another man. They fight to conceal their troubled feelings, even as Pembroke works desperately to help Sebastian find his lost ship. Both know that success may mean the loss of their great love, leaving them once again alone. Sanctuary.

Set in post-revolutionary America, the Caribbean, and the Barbary Coast, Sanctuary is the second of the historical pirate romances in Morgan Malone’s new series: The Pirates Of The Eastern Shore

My Review:

Sebastian (also known as Captain Sin) is on his first voyage as captain when a hurricane blows Sebastian into the sea. He washes up on a sheltered island and in the care of Sir Pembroke. The feelings of desire and love explode between them. Lost in a sea of emotion, can Sebastian embrace love with a man, or will he venture out on his ship, alone and heartbroken?

Sanctuary is an apt name for this historical pirate romance. Both Sebastian and Pembroke crave sanctuary in a lover’s embrace. But two men in love is as taboo as it gets in this time period. It just wasn’t done.

But in this tale, Morgan Malone tackles gay romance among two pirates and the result is a heart-wrenching historical romance. It’s tastefully executed with oodles of emotion, tension, and soul-satisfying love.

The historical accuracy makes this story come alive. Morgan Malone details every scene, so the reader is able to visualize everything. It’s a feast for historical romance readers.

The characters are so well written, the angst and turmoil they feel will make you yearn for release.

Another brilliant pirate romance in this series. Take my advice and read it. Even if you don’t normally read historical gay romance, you will thoroughly enjoy Sanctuary.

My Rating: 5++ stars

Author Biography:

Morgan Malone has been reading romance since the age of twelve, when she first snuck her mother’s copy of The Saracen Blade under the covers to read by flashlight. An award-winning published author of fiction by the age of eight, Morgan waited fifty years, including thirty as an Administrative Law Judge for a small New York State agency, to pen her next work of fiction. Now retired from her legal career, Morgan lives near Saratoga Springs, N.Y. with a backyard full of birds. And squirrels, rabbits and chipmunks. When not writing later-in-life romance about men and women who fall in love for the last, or maybe the first, time in their lives, Morgan is penning romantic memoirs or painting watercolors. She travels frequently with her daughter, a Clinical Psychologist, and shares fun family times with her son-a realtor, her daughter-in-law-a nurse, and her two delightful grandsons, who live nearby.
