Title: Sundaes on Sunday

Author: Lucinda Race

Genre: Contemporary Sweet Romance, Later in Life Romance

Book Blurb:

A widowed school teacher and the airline pilot whose little girl is determined to bring her daddy and the lady from the ice cream shop together for a second chance at love.

Although her husband died a year ago, first grade school teacher Lisa Peck is keeping one tradition she shared with him: sundaes every Sunday at their special place, Seaside Scoops. It’s there that she meets a precocious five-year-old, Allie, and her handsome, dark-haired father, Hunter.

Airline pilot Hunter Adams has been a single dad since his wife died when Allie was a baby. He has his life perfectly arranged. Allie stays with her grandparents during the week while he flies, then he spends weekends with his daughter, including taking her for sweet treats at Seaside Scoops. But Allie has never before been drawn to someone as quickly as she’s drawn to Lisa. Is it just a little girl interested in a pretty woman, or is it fate pulling Lisa and Hunter together?

Lisa is cautious, but maybe it’s time to move on from the past and take a second chance on love. Everyone is encouraging Hunter to do the same, but will Lisa think he’s just trying to find a mother for his child? Maybe Allie is wiser than the adults in her life. Will their sundaes on Sunday lead to true love every day of the week?

My Review:

A tradition Lisa shared with her now-deceased husband brings her something she never expected: a second chance at love. It’s been a year since Lisa’s husband passed away. Every Sunday, though, she carries on the tradition of eating sundaes at their favorite ice cream shop. One Sunday, she meets five-year-old Allie and her very handsome father, Hunter. They hit it off and become fast friends. She discovers Hunter is a pilot and lost his wife years ago. Lisa is conflicted by her burgeoning feelings for Hunter. Is it too soon? Is Hunter just looking for a mother for Allie or does he want her? Is this truly a second chance at love or will Lisa’s heart be trodden upon?

Sundaes on Sunday is a touching romance about two people not searching for love and an adorable little girl matchmaker. It’s summertime and this book will get you in the summer mood. It’s got everything you could want in a beach read: a couple not looking for love, the cutest little girl you’ll ever meet, an ice cream shop, and humorous dialogue. I connected with the characters right away. Both Lisa and Hunter are wonderful people who deserve love. Allie steals every scene she’s in. The descriptive narration hooks you from the beginning and you’ll be swept up in the story. Every moment, every thought, and every ice cream treat is beautifully portrayed. Be warned that there is a lot of ice cream enjoyment so you will be craving some while reading. The plot moves at a nice easy pace with a bit of tension here and there. The romance covers a couple of tropes which I enjoyed immensely. Lucinda Race is a truly gifted romance writer who writes realistic, modern romance with characters who leap from the pages and into your heart. Sundaes on Sunday is the perfect summer romance to dive into. Highly recommend!
