My Review:

It’s all awkward and games until someone brings a pet to the baby shower. Nothing fills Nell with trepidation more than a baby shower. She and Alex postponed it as long as possible. She’s about ready to give birth. Her shower is half her criminal-minded family, and the other half is with her law-abiding in-laws. She’s on pins and needles the whole time. When it comes time for the baby shower games, the ice starts to thaw. Things get really interesting when an unexpected guest shows up, wanting to show Nell their new pet. Piercing screams loud enough to wake the dead bring in the men posted outside. Uh oh, Nell’s water breaks. Can this little baby bring together this family?

The Family Way is a fun short story I read in less than an hour. As someone who loves this bestselling series, this is a delightful treat. As a woman, I have an aversion to baby showers. Women from different walks of life come together to honor a woman about to give birth. The shower games, food, and gifts make for a strange initiation of sorts. Pauline Baird Jones captures this perfectly in The Family Way. Her witty writing style is on parade and the reader can sit back and enjoy. The plot moves at a good pace with a tight cast of characters. The descriptive narration is intricate and allows the reader to experience the baby shower from the mama-to-be POV. The dialogue and inner thoughts, though, are what make The Family Way a hilarious read. The character dynamics make for tongue-in-cheek hilarity. If you’re looking for a humorous take on baby showers, pick up The Family Way. Want or need a laugh? Pick up The Family Way. Highly recommend!
