Title: The Mobile Rehab

Author: The Mobile Rehab

Genre: YA Humorous Fiction

Book Blurb:

Four teenagers are stranded in a foreign land—without their mobile devices. Can they survive?

Nineteen-year-old Rory Matthews is a self-proclaimed cell phone addict. When his unhealthy attachment to smartphones gets out of hand, he signs up for the viral “Mobile Rehab” in Hong Kong.

Nineteen-year-old Keira Delgado catches her boyfriend of three years cheating on her. Angry and upset, she impulsively books a ticket to Hong Kong forgetting her mobile phone at home.

When Rory witnesses Keira struggling to manage alone without her phone in the foreign land, he convinces her to join the Mobile Rehab program with him and two other teenagers.

Soon, the four realize that the program is not as shiny as it seems in its social media advertisement. Stranded in an unknown country, the four teenagers must learn to adapt to their new nondigital lives without any help for two weeks.

Can they survive all the challenges on their own? Or will they give up and run back home to their cushy lives? Can they see this “rehab” as an opportunity to overcome their device attachments and learn to rely on each other and themselves?

Navigating the awkward truths of offline life, The Mobile Rehab is a fun read packed with laugh-out-loud humor, heart-warming friendships, swoon-worthy crushes, and triumphant moments of self-discovery.

My Review:

Two weeks without a phone...couldn't imagine it so had to read this book.  A powerful book for our generation. Everyone with their phone in hand reading this review should read this book.

I work with two great bosses who don't own smartphones. I see each day that you can live life without a phone. I still do most of my living using my phone. I've been I-phoning for years. I do sometimes put the phone down at work and it doesn't kill me.

The four characters have similar experiences with phone withdrawal.

The characters are really well developed, and they are easily related to.  Desmond has issues with his parents. Who hasn't? Champa has issues with her peers at school. Who didn't at times? The story for me is really the story of Rory and Keira.

I seem to be becoming a softie, but I loved reading their story. The story just grips and takes you on a fulfilling journey. I recommend this book to every person who holds a smartphone.

My Rating: 5+ stars

Winnie D Pagora loves three things the most in her life: her family, her tech profession, and stories. Her fascination with stories started as a mere toddler when her mother read to her, and she began making up her own when she could barely read or write. She was just six when her article first got published in a leading children’s newspaper in India. Since then, she has dreamed of writing a book, and Unclutter: A Survivor’s Story is her debut novel. Other than reading and writing, Winnie’s interests include travel, wildlife, and global cuisines. She currently lives in Canada with her husband and her daughter.
