Enemies. On the run. Enemies until…“What if I never see you again?”
Union Captain John Howe escaped a living hell when he tunneled his way out of a Confederate prison, but his ordeal was far from over. Now he was saddled with his own prisoner, the sad, stubborn Amanda Douglas, on a journey that would change them forever.
Even her previous spartan existence had not prepared Amanda for the dangerous trek she was now making—entirely against her will.
Could a privileged Yankee son and a poor Rebel girl keep their love safe from the rest of the world?

Do you listen to audiobooks? Do you have a favorite? If you don’t listen to audiobooks, is there a particular reason why not?
I listen to audiobooks often—from various genres and for two reasons. First of all, I like being entertained while I’m doing household chores that aren’t the least bit “entertaining,” and second of all, reading the printed word has become challenging. Many print books have fonts that are both small and pale. Audiobooks are a wonderful solution to that problem.
What makes this a must-listen audiobook?
It is an award-winning, fast paced and moving love story which won the Romance Writers of America’ RITA for Best Short Historical the year it was published, and it was recommended by Diana Gabaldon—spontaneously. I promise I didn’t bribe her with an offer to wash her car for the next two decades. It took me a long, LONG time to get this book to readers. I gave up early and often, but then, each time, I decided I wouldn’t. I kept going, kept getting my feelings hurt. “The Prisoner” is, as writers often say, “a book of the heart.” In my case, it truly is. I hope that you will listen to it, and most of all, that you will enjoy it.
