Title: Trouble on the Smoky Hill Trail – A Pearl Brothers Western Adventure

Author: Andrew Weston

Genre: Historical Western, Old West

Book Blurb:

A Cheyenne raiding party turns the quiet community of Elder Grove, Kansas, upside down, resulting in the death of a mother and father, and the abduction of their teenage daughters.

All seems lost.

But the Cheyenne didn’t reckon on the leaders of Elder Grove, Jacob and Noah Pearl. Two men with a remarkable shared history, who are a force of nature when roused. And as the Cheyenne are about to discover, they’re also the kind of men who will do anything to see justice done, even if it means getting their hands dirty.

My Review:

A classic western in every sense of the word. Having been a fan of western novels and movies across two millennia, this one fits right in the early 20th century style western. The book grabs the reader right off and keeps going straight to the end.

The two 'brothers' are the key characters and their relationship with each other and everyone else is the fuel that carries the story. Jacob and Noah are a force unto themselves and cut a wide swath through the people and situations they meet.

The story is extremely well written and feels like a classic western novel. The action scenes are riveting and provide some of the most exciting reading in western genre books.

The character development is a great strength in this work. The main characters shine but the secondary characters are strong enough on their own. Moving between the pursuers and the captive is a tried-and-true style that really works in this book.

If you're a fan of the Searchers with John Wayne, then you are going to simply love this book. Fans of quality western writing will love this book. For the first book of a series, this is a dynamic beginning. I personally can't wait to see book two. A great read for the summer or actually any time of the year!

My Rating: 5 stars

Born in the UK, Andrew Weston was captivated by the great western shows of the 1950s and 60s, where the likes of Wagon Train, Rawhide, Gunsmoke, The Lone Ranger, Bonanza, and the High Chaparral were regular fare on TV.

Having served around the world in both the military and law enforcement for well over three decades, Weston now lives in the Aegean Greek Islands with his wonderful wife of 24 years. It is from there that he continues his quest to write the perfect story, and discover a film to rival, “Once Upon a Time in the West.”
