Title: The Vatican Children (World of Shadows Book 2)

Author: Lincoln Cole

Genre: Occult Thriller/Urban Fantasy

Book Blurb:

Once the events of Everett are finally behind him, Father Niccolo Paladina reluctantly decides to assist the Occult Demon Hunter Arthur Vangeest in chasing down the enemy that narrowly escaped them back in Washington. Niccolo knows how important it is to bring the man to justice for the crimes he has committed against the Vatican as well as humanity. Father Paladina knows that the enemy has something big planned against the Church and that it will be worse than anything he has seen before. If they can keep the man on the run, however, he won't be able to finish his plan. That's the plan, at least, though finding him turns out to be more dangerous than anticipated. Arthur, on the other hand, is still hoping to earn some redemption for his actions in West Virginia nine months ago. He seeks to atone for his mistakes and become a better man. Atonement, however, can be difficult to come by... Especially when the stakes are so high.

My Review:

The Vatican Children picks up right where The Everett Exorcism left off. Father Paladina teams up with Arthur Vangeest to hunt down the Bishop to make him pay for what he did back in Washington. Somehow the Bishop escaped their clutches but that could work to Paladina’s and Arthur’s advantage, that is, if they can catch him before he completes his evil plan. What they don’t anticipate is the Bishop’s use of innocent children to enact his plan. Arthur vows to never kill again and his path to redemption is within his grasp but then hell is unleashed, and he must choose: save one life or save many.

Wow! Another brilliant book in the World of Shadows universe. The suspense moved the plot at a frantic pace while the characters made me care what happened to them. Both Arthur and Father P. (as I affectionally call him) must dig deep to overcome both their own insecurities and what must be done to save the lives of many. The Bishop is a malicious antagonist but in a delicious way. I found myself wondering how he grew to be so wicked, so sinful, so hell-bent on destroying the Church.

The Vatican Children brings the reader at the heart of an eternal battle between good and evil. Creepy, thought-provoking and thrilling to read, I highly recommend this book, though please read The Everett Exorcism first. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Favorite Character/Quote: “He had to admit, just seeing her caused his heart to race and filled him with emotion. She represented his second chance at life, a chance to try again. This time, he would get it right.”

My Rating: 5 stars
